The Most Notable Emmy Nods This Year (Plus the Complete List of Nominees)

It’s a big day for actors, producers, creators and lovers of television. This year’s Emmy Award nominations were announced this morning, and as always, it was a mixed bag of shoo-ins, snubs and surprises. Read on for some of the notable nominations this year, and scroll down for the complete list.

1. Sandra Oh became the first actress of Asian descent to score a Leading Actress nom for Drama, for her role as Eve Polastri in BBC America’s spy drama Killing Eve. Here’s hoping she follows in Riz Ahmed’s footsteps (he became the first man of Asian descent to win the Leading Actor in a Drama Series award last year) by snagging that trophy.

2. Game of Thrones ruled the pack with 22 nominations, beating out Westworld and Saturday Night Live, each of which got 21 noms, and The Handmaid’s Tale, which scored 20. Side note: Peter Dinklage is now the most-nominated actor in history in the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category, having been nominated seven times so far.

3. Anthony Bourdain was posthumously recognized for his CNN show Parts Unknown. The series was nominated for six Emmy awards, including for cinematography and writing.

4. John Legend is within reach of an EGOT with his two Emmy nominations for Jesus Christ Superstar Live. If he wins, he would join the ranks of only twelve other people who have earned that honour, including Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn and Robert Lopez.

5. HBO may have ruled the Emmys game for 17 years, earning more nominations across categories than any other network every year, but its streak came to an end today courtesy of Netflix. The streaming service came out on top this year, with 112 nominations to HBO’s 108.
