The party: Harry Rosen’s An Evening with Steve Nash
When: Thursday September 10, 2009
Where: Harry Rosen store, Yorkville
Once upon a time I would have called this a ‘sausage party,’ but post-Apatow, we use the sophisticated term ‘bro-mance.’ And such describesthe Harry Rosen TIFF-inspired Evening with Steve Nash. Held atop the famed mens merchandiser’s flagship Yorkville location, on a terrace overlooking a TIFF ground zero that featured a ticketed blue Lamborghini, Porsches and throngs of celeb-stalkers. This is the stuff of TIFF frivolity: intimate parties in little-known locales, cool tunes, nice clothes, great weather and hell, even a homegrown celeb or two. With five fantastically suited guys for every gal, Harry Rosen was the place to be a single woman. Alas, my husband–a mad Steve Nash fan–is what lured me off the La-Z-Boy and into the opening night action. Note to husband: Next time, wear your suit. Rubbing shoulders with the rest of us were Raptors head coach Jay Triano, the Argonauts’ Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons, model contractor Monika Schnarre, and Jeanne Beker to name a few. Bonus of the party? A guest of honour that doesn’t hide in a VIP room. Nash, who is now branching out into film with a documentary about Canadian icon Terry Fox, waded through his devotees in a suit jacket of his own that he paired with Vans. Well, at least my husband was wearing purple Ponys.
