We knew an auction was coming, but is it too soon? Celebrity auctioneer Darren Julien announced that the highest bidders will soon walk away with a piece of Whitney Houston, as several memorable items donned by the late songstress will be auctioned off.

“You buy items just like a stock. Buy at the right time and sell at the right time, and they just increase in value,” says the auctioneer—though we’re sure Houston fans won’t be pleased. Moreover, the auction is to take place at his auction house, mere blocks away from the Beverly Hilton, Houston’s place of death.

Items that will surely bring in the most bids are the memorable pieces Houston wore in The Bodyguard, such as the floor-length black velvet dress priced for $1,000, a vest starting at $400, and most of the costume jewellery that graced the silver screen.

The auction is set to take place March 31 and April 1 at the Hollywood Legends auction, where collectors and fans can bid by phone, online, or in person. We just wonder if Julien has hired enough security. We’re sure Houston’s loyal fans will be protesting outside the auction house.

THEY SAID…

The Christian Post: “The auction will certainly make money. But many fans of Houston think it’s too soon for an auction to be taking place.” [The Christian Post]

Perez Hilton: “It’s kinda sad. Houston’s family can stop nasty looters from trying swipe stuff from the hotel room Whitney died in, but they can’t stop seemingly class Beverly Hills auction houses. [Perez Hilton]

WE SAID…

Elio Iannacci, features editor: “It is absolutely too soon. Fans can take solace in knowing that Whitney’s legendary status will continue to outshine those who wish to inappropriately benefit from her name. To quote one Houston’s most powerful hits, “The Greatest Love of All”: “No matter what they take from me/They can’t take away my dignity.”
