This is Why Demi Lovato is Quitting Music
Demi Lovato is perhaps known as much for her advocacy as she is for her music. Yet when she announced yesterday on Twitter that she’d be quitting the spotlight, it ignited fear in her legions of Lovatics.
So excited for 2017. Taking a break from music and the spotlight.. I am not meant for this business and the media ??

This isn’t the first time that she’s made a declaration to quit, though. On June 20, she said she was quitting Twitter and Instagram…only to come back 24 hours later.
Fuck this.. I'm back bitches. And I'm coming back more honest than ever

With almost 40 million followers on Twitter, Demi has a lot of people to please, so we can see why she might feel like quitting once in a while. But with music, it’s hard to project whether or not she will make a speedy comeback. In her recently released story in Glamour, she says that speaking out about addiction and mental health is her true purpose. And her actions corroborate this ambitious statement: She is on the board for CAST Centers, where she was treated for her addiction, and has launched CAST Centers on Tour, which gives people access to influential speakers who share stories about improving one’s wellness. (See the video below for more info.) And further examples of her charitable work abound.
In addition to her role as mental health crusader, Demi is also a body-positivity advocate. The singer struggled with low self-confidence and also with bulimia in the past, so she makes it a mission to help women feel good about themselves. In the aforementioned Glamour article, she serves up a zinger in regards to Taylor Swift and her squad, saying: “To be honest, and this will probably get me in trouble, I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body. It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it’s not real.” And this isn’t the first time she took a proverbial swing at Swift. Demi was vocal about her support for Ke$ha during the suit against Dr. Luke and called on other influential women (rumours have it that she was singling out Taylor) to use their fame for good. But not all her stirring the pot has to do with big names. She takes it so seriously that she even criticized a fan’s artwork of her as a mermaid, saying she looked too skinny and her boobs were too big—much to the artist’s chagrin.
Anyways, it seems like Demi’s mission for advocacy, along with the music label she runs with Nick Jonas and her manager Phil McIntyre, Safehouse Records, would be enough to keep an average person more than busy for a lifetime. But something tells us there will at least be musical collabs in her future.
