This Video Demonstrates the Dramatic Differences Between Instagram Makeup and IRL Makeup
If you ask a professional makeup artist to cover you in layers upon layers of foundation, boxed brows and enough highlight to cover your nose, they’ll most likely leave and never come back. These trends, adopted by almost every Instagram star, aren’t really an IRL thing. They’re meant to be photographed. (So don’t worry if your eyebrows aren’t “on fleek” and your liquid matte lipstick doesn’t look like Kylie Jenner’s.)
Blogger Amanda Ensing tried Instagram makeup and real life makeup simultaneously in a YouTube video, and the side-by-side comparison is insane.
The 25-year-old begins her video reminding everyone that they should be able to wear what they want, when they want to. She then jumps into the two looks, literally separated into two halves on her face.
Throughout the video, there are some similarities: primer, concealer, foundation, mascara and highlight, but the Instagram side is totally dramatized. Additions to the look include baking, smokey eyes, falsies, dark-to-light boxy brows, eyeliner and over-lined lips.
Ensing says she doesn’t prefer one look to the other and thinks they’re both beautiful for different reasons.
But, as the beauty blogger says, the Instagram look requires a ton of time and effort in comparison to the everyday one. If you have the time and patience, it wouldn’t hurt to try it out. And like Ensing, you can alternate between both looks on different days based on your mood.
“This definitely shows the power of makeup to me,” Ensing says in the video. “I love how makeup can transform your face, give you confidence, be whoever you want to be.”
