This Week’s Need-to-Know Beauty News
Canadian-made True and You skincare is officially available for pre-order
While packing carry-on for a trip to Europe, Saumya Saxena soon came to realize the simplicity and ease of multi-tasking beauty products. “One third of my bag was filled with skincare products. It was then that I realized that I needed a better solution to the popular multi-step skincare routine,” says the Toronto-based beauty entrepreneur. That moment lead Saumya to launch her very own skincare brand, True and You, comprised of one single triple-threat face mask. Now officially available for pre-order on Kickstarter, the brand’s made-in-Canada mask is also customizable depending on your skin concerns. Here’s how the skincare wonder works: True and You’s Customized Glacial Clay Mask starts with one detoxifying glacial clay base derived from the Canadian Rockies. Then each customer can select two of his/her preferred boosters from a list of five: Hydrate (think a blend of rose-hip oil, Vitamin E and more), Brighten (tumeric root, grapefruit oil and Vitamin C), Detox (bamboo charcoal, tea tree oil, glycerin and guava leaf extarc), Calm (lime pearl, eucalyptus oil, willowherb extract) and lastly Rejuvenate (hyaluronic acid, caffeine, aloe vera). Once your order arrives, simply mix your base and boosters together using the True and You bamboo brush prior to your first use and go to town.

UK-based Aaron Wallace hair and beard care now ships to Canada
UK barber Aaron Wallace’s eponymous haircare line was born out of his barber shop after multiple Black male clients kept asking him about which haircare products they should be using at home on their afro-textured manes. Aware of the lack of products on the market that really catered to his clients’ hair needs, and uncomfortable recommending most of what was out there, Aaron decided to eventually close up shop and focus on building his own inclusive haircare range for Black men. Now, thanks to direct international shipping, Canadian fellas can finally get there hands on his 4-piece, sulphate-free line. There’s the Hydrating Hair & Beard Shampoo ($23), Mango Butter + Black Seed Conditioner ($23), Hair & Beard Moisturizer with Mango Butter + Black Seed Oil ($23) and Hair & Beard Oil ($32)
