TIFF 2018: We Went to the Colette Premiere Party
So I attended a TIFF Party! To help those who couldn’t make it feel like they were there, I completed this comprehensive post-party questionnaire.
What was the party for?
It was the official post-premiere party for Colette, the Keira Knightley-starrer about Belle Epoque-era feminist writer (and Nobel Prize nominee) known simply as Colette. Dominic West plays her husband, Willy, who took credit for the first four novels she wrote.
What brands were present as partners?
Soho House and Grey Goose.
Which celebrities were supposed to be in attendance?
Keira Knightley and Dominic West.
Which celebs did you actually spot?
Keira Knightley, Dominic West, and the rest of the cast from the film—Denise Gough, Ray Panthaki and Jake Graf. Also spotted: Colette director Wash Westmoreland and TIFF artistic director Cameron Bailey.
Describe the general vibe.
Elegant, grown-up cocktail party, mostly thanks to the playlist of jazz and old-school hits like Fever, Luck Be a Lady and That’s Amore.
Food? Cocktails?
Soho House’s famous wood-fired pizza plus juicy meatballs and fried chicken bites. Grey Goose’s film-inspired cocktails did the rounds, the one with popcorn-flavoured syrup seemingly a crowd favourite.
Best dressed?
The dude in a cropped leather jacket and embroidered gown with flowing train. Major props to him for not yelling at all the people who stepped on it over the course of the night.
Please repeat one conversation you overheard.
“Still no Keira, eh?” (Keira, in fact, was one of the first people to arrive at the party, where she proceeded to plop on to a sofa in the corner where clearly no one could spot her.)
If you had to title the party as if it were a film, what would it be called?
Has Anyone Seen Keira?
The picture I painted wasn’t clear enough? Well, here are some photos from inside the party.
