Toronto: Denis Gagnon
{FASHION WEEK SPRING 2009 TORONTO}
By Sarah Casselman
The final day at the tents was an air kissing, Peroni-sipping good time. Yours truly spent time in the sponsor lounge talking accessories (Hermès H bangles) and lingerie (think naughty and nice) with the Agent Provocateur PR rep, Elyn. Despite the long week, I felt energized and could feel the electricity in the air for the long awaited Denis Gagnon spring collection.
As the lights dim I spot Canadian songstress Kreesha Turner and How Clean is Your House co-host Kim Woodburn in the front row.
Denis Gagnon’s spring collection made a very strong impression with a pared down palette of black, white and blood red and primitive-meets-punk selection of accessories by Harakiri (think spiky stacked bracelets). Gagnon is a master with leather, creating skinny jackets and hooded mini dresses that really pack a fashionable punch. Lots of in-your-face flourishes like thick braids, ruching, edgy tote bags, dramatic draping and slick, sky-high wedges made for a show within the show. Models sported pretty, pale complexions and perfectly-defined, glossy red lips. Favourite look: Dual-colour sack dress in hot pink and red. The metallic pieces thrown into the mix at the show’s end didn’t leave a lasting impression but Gagnon’s overall lineup of looks has me counting the days until spring. A fabulous way to finish off L’Oréal Fashion Week.
