Toronto shop notes: 5 minutes with jewellery designer Pamela Love
Judging from her bold statement pieces and savagely sexy collections, Pamela Love (at select Holt Renfrew stores) has become the go-to girl for unique accessories that push the boundaries of traditional jewellery design. Trust us, all you need is love.
Describe your creative process. “I start by finding images and inspirations to create a mood board. For Spring/Summer 2011, I was very inspired by traditional African and Indian cultures as well as the astrological lunar phases.”
What do you enjoy most about designing? “The result is a powerful feeling—to create something that connects with your spirit as you wear it. It’s also fulfilling to create something that one day may become a family heirloom.”
Where do you like travelling to for inspiration? “Going on road trips is always inspiring to me. My jewellery is multicultural, and I’m fascinated by other cultures. Exploring places like New Mexico and Arizona has definitely been influential.”
What is your signature piece? “My Talon cuff. It was one of my first designs and also carries out the concept of jewellery as protection. I wear it every day.”
What does your studio look like? “It’s bright with lots of natural light, big windows and dream catchers.”
How would you define success in the jewellery business? “Being able to make a career out of something you truly love and enjoy.”
