Toronto: Taking girls’ night in out to the salon
The beauty pros at Toronto’s Tony Chaar Salon (11 Hazelton Ave., 416-920-9965, tonychaarsalon.com) and Schwarzkopf Professional (schwarzkopf-professional.ca) must know that I have had zero personal time lately, because they organized a personalized Girls’ Night In at the hair salon. It was incredible. Between clinking glasses with my six A-list friends (a television host, PR expert, multimedia producer, teacher, freelance book editor and my favourite eight-year-old), dropping M&Ms and Smarties into my mouth at regular intervals, I caught up on all of the important girl gossip and got beautified. Tony Chaar put my blow dryer–scorched and DIY-trimmed hair back on stylish track with a fresh cut (from $85) and blow out (from $40). Victoria Radford tamed several sets of overgrown brows ($25), while simultaneously updating our makeup (from $95), and Joelle Karam rescued chipped nails with a tidy-up and a sweep of high-gloss nail lacquer (from $18). It was like a grown-up slumber party. (Contact the salon to throw your own!) Three hours later, feeling rejuvenated, reacquainted and, if I say so myself, looking marvelous, we swanned out of our temporary oasis and back onto the street and into reality. I think I may have found my new homegrown destination spot.
