Vancouver: Four Father’s Day finds
If your dad is anything like mine, he can be trouble to buy for. To help you in your quest for the perfect Father’s Day gift, I’ve detailed a few great finds from around Vancouver:
Bailey of Hollywood’s Sydney (above, $109), is the perfect hat for a dapper dad. Available at Granville Island’s emporium of headpieces, Edie Hats (1666 Johnston St., Suite 4 The Netloft, Granville Island 604-683-4280), this panama hat is woven from toquilla palm fibers and features a teardrop crown and a rich navy sash. Definitely a piece from dad’s wardrobe that I would borrow!
If your dad is more of a doer, the Vancouver Sailing Club offers Learn-to-Sail Weekends (#101 – 1001 West Broadway, 604-805-9944, vancouversailingclub.com). For $475, he can enjoy a weekend aboard a beautiful yacht in downtown Vancouver. Over two days, he’ll learn the basics of sailing and have all the luxuries of a bed and breakfast, plus plenty of leisure time in Vancouver’s scenic False Creek. The course includes a keelboat sailing certification exam at the end of the weekend.
For the new father, the wool felt Scout Journey Pack (left, $180) from Petunia Pickle Bottom is a stylish, masculine diaper bag. It features a wipeable changing pad, a monogrammed diaper wipe case, valet stroller clips, and removable bottle pockets. The best part: All the baby-specific parts can be removed, allowing it to double as a laptop messenger bag, ensuring your gift will outlast the infant stage. At Dandelion Kids (1206 Commercial Drive, 604-676-1862, dandelionkids.ca).
There’s always the old faithful–it’s hard to go wrong in indulging him with a stress-relieving bottle of one of Glenfiddich’s Single Malt Whiskies (bcliquorstores.com). Add some Havanos cigars from Yaletown’s Revolucion (1062 Mainland St., 604-662-4427, revolucionstyle.com) and let your dad feel relaxed and appreciated.
