Vancouver: Washing up naturally at Lavan
By Caroline Gault
Shanie Bar Oz is itching to soften your skin. The co-founder of Lavan (840 Granville St., Vancouver, 604-568-8807, lavanlavan.ca), which means “white” in Hebrew, sources all her store’s natural, hypoallergenic, paraben-free products from the Israeli countryside. The boutique, which opened late last year, has a grand stone sink in the centre, urging you to test-drive all of the products. And test-drive I did. Like a fruit salad for the body, the brand blends essential oils like peach, papaya, cucumber, grape and lemon juice with Dead Sea salts for silky results in an instant. My picks: the body scrub in Apple Vanilla ($30), the sorbet lotions ($26), and the shower gel in Cucumber Melon ($22), which doubles as bubble bath. Bonus: a $10 membership will get you 5 per cent off all your purchases, and a $20 gift certificate on your birthday.
