Watch Famed Australian Artists Craig and Karl Try Canadian Candy
Meet Craig and Karl. You might not know their names, but you definitely know their work. The Australian duo, who are university friends turned creative collaborators, have partnered with everyone from Nike and Apple to Vogue and Paris concept store Colette. With simple but bold designs, a firm grasp of Internet culture and a witty sense of humour, the artistic pair has become an industry powerhouse that every brand is chasing after.
For the 2017 holiday season, Craig and Karl teamed up with Nespresso to create a line of limited-edition, candy inspired capsules. With three OriginalLine flavours (Snowball, Liquorize and Orangette) and three VertuoLine flavours (Cherry, Peppermint Cane and Banana), the Variations Confetto coffees and espressos pull from old-style confectionary flavours. They taste like childhood Christmas mornings, but they look like something that could hand in a modern art museum: “We saw a classic motif that can evoke nostalgia for the customer,” Craig and Karl explained, “but one that equally feels current owing to its bold and graphic form.”
When the artists stopped by in Toronto (for the first time ever!) to celebrate the launch of Nespresso Confetto in North America, we put their candy tasting skills to the test. Who better to sample a selection of Canada’s confectionary delicacies than these two? Watch the video below for Craig and Karl’s hilarious reactions to Coffee Crisp, Mr. Big and Old Dutch Ketchup. (Chips are like candy too, right?)
