Watch the Trailer For Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds’ Documentary
Following the tragic deaths of Carrie Fisher at age 60, followed by her mother one day later at age 84, HBO has decided to move up the premiere of its documentary about the mother-daughter duo, Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds to January 7.
The doc, which showed at the Cannes, Telluride and New York film festivals, follows the story of the star-studded pair, including their differing positions on show biz. Living side by side, their lives are naturally intertwined, but the film portrays how their understanding of one another is almost supernatural. “I’m my mom’s best friend,” says the Star Wars star. To which Reynolds replies, “I share everything with my daughter, even the cheque.” Fisher continues that she knows more about her mom than she would have ever wanted to.
In serious moments, Reynolds, famous for her roles in many films including Singin’ in the Rain, reflects upon the difficulty of Fisher’s bipolar disorder. “Nobody knew what was going on with Carrie,” she says. You’ll also learn about the family dynamic of growing up with Hollywood royalty and meet Fisher’s brother, Todd, who told E! News following their deaths: “She went to be with Carrie. In fact, those were the last words that she spoke this morning…. More specifically, she said that she really, she was under a lot of stress.”
Watch snippets of the film below, and you’ll begin to understand their unbreakable bond.
