We Predict Fashion Will Be Upbeat (and Enjoyable) Again in 2019
In our Winter issue, FASHION editors rounded up the 100 people, products and experiences we predict will blow up in 2019. It’s our inaugural Hot 100 Fuse List. From the workouts you’ll be doing, to the new designers and destinations you’ll see on your feed, this is your guide to being in the know next year. After the long year that was 2018, we need to start being more upbeat and enjoyable in 2019. Brands like Edie Parker suggest you start with your wardrobe.
64: Upbeat Fashion
From a pop-culture standpoint, 2018 kicked off with the Golden Globe Awards in January when actresses and activists banded together in black evening dresses to show their support for the #MeToo movement. It’s been a year of shocking revelations, but it was also filled with powerful, game-changing moments.
On that note, it’s time for a little happiness in 2019. If there’s one designer who knows how to spread positive vibes, it’s Brett Heyman.
Case in point: this decidedly upbeat Oval Bag in “Gold Confetti.” It’s made of hand-poured acrylic and includes something Heyman calls “a kiss-lock closure.” There’s a retro yearning to the Edie Parker aesthetic, but since the brand is named for Heyman’s daughter, it’s likely more about the future. “Life is serious,” says Heyman. “We need more joy these days.”
