It’s the most wonderful day of the year! Today is #NationalLipstickDay and we’re celebrating by bringing you the best of the best when it comes to our favourite lipstick shades, tips, tricks and trends.
Rihanna can and will always wear lipstick better than the rest of us. Over the last few years, we’ve watched her step out in everything from fuchsia to blue to nude, and then subsequently watched as she pulled off each and every one of them.
So naturally, that made us both jealous and thirsty for the skill of wearing colours that some of our friends have made us promise never to repeat. Therefore, we analyzed and rated every Rihanna lip shade according to the wearability of each on a day-to-day basis. The good news? The majority of them can fit into life of a non-famous. The bad? This will probably be the season I try wearing blue lipstick.
May Rihanna have mercy on us all.

Unless you’re channeling Electric Circus circa 1998, it’ll be tough. Fortunately, there’s another option: Just be Rihanna.

Bottega Veneta and Carolina Herrera were just a few of the shows showcasing the quintessential nineties lip, meaning this lip shade is life, and that I was right for wearing it well into the pink-infused 2000s.

With smokier eyes, you can wear it every day and how dare you question me. But if you’re not one to define your lashes, brows, or cheekbones, you may run the risk of looking completely monochromatic. Which will only work if you’d like to remain incognito (so, potentially ideal for the office).

It’s the colour you can wear without apology, every day, all the time. Right now I’m wearing it with Christmas tree pyjama pants. See? (Also: apologies for the mental picture.)

The official shade of asking your mom permission to wear makeup in the middle school. (And obviously we weren’t allowed because our moms knew we weren’t Rihanna. Moms always know.)

If anybody ever tells you not to wear fuchsia lipstick, you remind them calmly and assuredly that somewhere, Rihanna is embarrassed for them.

Imagine the power of knowing you can pull off green lipstick. None of us have that power, I’m sorry.

Considering it’s usually the first lipstick shade introduced to human beings (and the shade of most “non-tinted” lip glosses), it’s a safe bet forever. I mean, if it’s good enough for that nineties makeover doll with the massive head, it’s good enough for the rest of us.

Evidently, it’s the grown-up version of the colour that came with that nineties makeover doll with the massive head.

Not great for the 9-5 circuit, but excellent for days and/or nights spent quoting The Craft.

Lipstick colour: Grey
Wearability: 6/10
It’s a difficult vibe for the day-to-day, sure. But if you dye your hair to match, consider grey the new black.

Behold: the lipstick shade that inspired the hallelujah emoji hands. And like that Taylor Swift song promises, it never goes out of style.
