Welcome Home, Duchess! Meghan Markle Arrives in Toronto Without Prince Harry

For the first time since the royal wedding, Meghan Markle is returning to her roots. (Not her California roots, but her Toronto-residing Suits roots. Obviously.) This, apparently, is major news as it’s Markle’s inaugural overseas trip WITHOUT her hubby, Prince Harry. Which, TBH, isn’t as big of a deal as everyone’s making it out to be: earlier this month, Harry traveled to Botswana without his wife. Plus, after spending most of their courtship on opposite sides of the Atlantic, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should be pretty accustomed to this whole healthy independence thing.

I’m more interested in the fact that Markle landed in Toronto on Sunday via a public Air Canada flight. Which, as a frequent Air Canada flyer, led me to ponder a series of questions: did she sit in Economy, like she did with Prince Harry on that flight from France? Did she hang out in the Maple Leaf Lounge before takeoff and nibble on that soggy kale and cranberry salad? I feel like that would totally be her thing. Did she watch any movies once she was onboard? Did she get a glass of something boozy with her airplane meal? I know how she loves a good glass of full-bodied red. If she sat in Signature Class, did she pocket the amazing Vitruvi amenities packed in the Want Les Essentiels bag? Or, is it un-royal to stuff a freebie in your carry-on tote? And finally, did she collect the Aeroplan miles from her journey? Because, you know, those transatlantic flights bring in major points.

Sadly, we can’t expect these questions ever to be answered: Kensington Palace reportedly sent a letter to Air Canada staff asking that nobody snap a photo or even approach Meghan Markle on the flight. How posh! We do however know how Markle will likely be spending her solo time in Canada. (No, it’s not for a Suits reunion. Sorry!) Per Royal Central: “Meghan still has close friends who live in the city, including the Mulroneys. All three of their children played roles in her May wedding to Prince Harry. It is likely she is visiting with them.” Yeah, that checks out.
