Lately, it seems like not a month goes by without hearing something cool about Waris Ahluwalia. The actor, designer and bearded bon vivant has been in Toronto all summer long filming Deepa Mehta’s new movie Beeba Boys, while launching a sunglasses collaboration with New York-based label, Morgenthal Frederics. The capsule collection of 10 handcrafted buffalo horn frames, available for the bargain basement price of $2,195, is available on his site, houseofwaris.com, and has become his own personal favourite as of late. “They’re so light and very useful for when we finish filming at 6 a.m,” he says. Obviously curious as to what else Ahluwalia considers essential while spending time in our hometown, we had a peek through his tote in our nosy latest edition of “What’s in your bag?”

Bag Waris Ahluwalia
Most of my summer has been spent in Toronto filming Deepa Mehta’s new movie Beeba Boys. This Pacific Tote Co. bag, made in California, is perfect for my on set bag. It holds everything I need. I don’t think I could use another tote after this.

It’s quite an honour to be working with the legendary Deepa Mehta. I keep the script with me at all times so she knows I’m serious.
There’s a lot of waiting on a film set, so I bring along a copy of the literary journal, The Paris Review. Short stories and essays are all we really get time for.
I still like to use pen and paper. I know that sounds crazy. My favorite stationer is Mrs John L. Strong. We recently collaborated on a set of stationary and notebooks – I use this one on set for all my really really deep thoughts.

This summer we launched our with Morgenthal Frederics – handcrafted buffalo horn sunglasses available in 3 colours – each only an edition of 10. It’s part of our RARE Collection in partnership with the Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts. They’re so light and very useful for when we finish filming at 6 a.m.
On my person I like to keep as little as possible. This little wallet from Anya Hindmarch is perfect. Also, I don’t forget my name this way.

This little bottle of argan oil is the secret to my beard’s success.
My favourite juice place in all of Toronto is Greenhouse Juices Co. I always get a rococo and a juice. This one is as good as it looks. So far they only have one location, but they do deliver.

Toronto nights get a bit cool. I bring this sweatshirt and a House of Waris hand loomed cashmere scarf with me everywhere.
