Who needs a mortgage when you can buy some Margiela?
Fashion e-commerce site Yoox.com put over 100 pieces from the Maison Martin Margiela archive on sale today and if you can forgo several mortgage payments, this is an incredible opportunity to snag some one-off pieces from the reclusive, avant garde designer. The pieces were created from 2005 to 2009 and include the mirrored disco ball top (US$10,995), a blazer made of wigs from the Fall 2008 collection (US$11,795) and a fishnet evening gown (US$8,595). The descriptions themselves are amazing–they detail the collection date, the materials and even the production time. (A men’s jacket pieced together from travel bags took 57 hours!) Proceeds are going to Rosa Spier House, a retirement home in the Netherlands for artists and academics. And even if you can’t blow the price of a small car on a piece of iconic fashion, you can at least blow the rest of the afternoon digging through the archive. [Telegraph, via Fashionista]
