Why it took 200 hours to create Selena Gomez’s Karl Lagerfeld tour outfit
In case you’ve been on a social media detox and haven’t been up to date with the latest pop news, Selena Gomez kicked off her “Revival” world tour this weekend in Las Vegas. While everyone still can’t stop talking about her Swarovski-embellished Monse bodysuit, we’re actually more obsessed with her custom-made look by Karl Lagerfeld.
The futuristic couture ensemble, which took over 200 hours to create, features black vinyl leggings and an exquisitely handcrafted silk dress that has more than 12,000 pearls, beads and glittering sequins. The look is finished off in true Karl fashion: embellished finger-less gloves.
“I put on the actual costume when it was done and I was just completely blown away,” says Gomez. “It makes me feel so badass. It’s the best feeling in the world.”
Apparently Gomez will be working this look for her “Metropolis/ Technology” act, for which she will perform six numbers, including “Hands to Myself.” However, the question remains: Will 12,000 sequins withstand 110 booty-shaking shows worldwide over the coming eight months? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
