Winnipeg: Suit up

As the weather shifts from brisk to beautiful, the dreaded bikini shopping has started to weigh heavily on my mind. I’ve been wearing the same one for two years now, which means I’m ready for a new suit…maybe.

Winnipeg desigern Kimberley Slezak may be the one to help pull me out of my rut. She’s designed a new line of bathing suits and summer wear, KLAS Clothing (klasclothing.com), just in time for my hot pursuit and will be sending it down the runway on June 4 at Blush Ultraclub (doors at 8 p.m., show at 9:30; 323 Portage Ave.).

“I try to keep all of my clothing easy to wear whether you’re lounging on the beach or going out with your friends,” Slezak says, adding that she’s made something to suit every personality.

Now 26, Slezak decided she wanted to start designing while still in high school. She filled a spare period with a fashion technology course in grade nine and she’s been spending her days sewing ever since.

“I love designing clothing because it allows me to bring my thoughts to life and it’s a great feeling seeing others excited about my clothing,” Slezak explains. “I love to see my creations worn by someone who loves them as much as I do.”
