Winter 2014: Letter from the editor

November 2013: Letter from the editor

Should you wear PJs to Work?

Absolutely not. However, like writer Olivia Stren, you should open your mind to lace-trimmed slip dresses and silky shirts with piped edges. In “While You Were Sleeping” (page 86), Stren took one of the season’s key looks—Louis Vuitton’s slip and coat—out on the town and, as is her way, has lots of amusing things to say about the experience.
Sleepwear beyond the boudoir is just one of the holiday trends we tackle in this issue, along with—you’ll be happy to hear—fancy flats. Nathalie Atkinson, long noted for her grounded taste in footwear, looks at the shift away (and down!) from heels even for night in “Sole Mates” (page 74). We also bring you several exclusive interviews in this issue.

Health and acting beauty editor Rani Sheen flew to Tokyo to meet artist and former Vuitton collaborator Takashi Murakami, who has created a holiday collection for Shu Uemura (“Fringe Culture,” page 140). Fashion news editor Nancy Won visited Nicola Formichetti’s New York loft to find out what the new creative head of Diesel has up his sleeve (“Diesel Fuel,” page 64), and she hit Times Square with Canadian success story Deborah Castel, women’s shoe designer for Express (“Bright Lights, Big City,” page 84). Won also rang up L’Wren Scott to find out how she will be decorating the homes she shares with Mick Jagger for the holidays (“The Glamorous Life,” page 146). And to say that features editor Elio Iannacci and Courtney Love hit it off would be putting it mildly (“Endless Love,” page 184). After our New York shoot, Love invited Iannacci home to curl up by the same fireplace where Hedi Slimane photographed her for his fall Saint Laurent campaign.

Best of all, fashion market editor Caitlan Moneta has compiled more than 100 tempting holiday gifts, some of which are available through our own e-tailing hub, Shop.FashionMagazine.com.

And if we do inspire you to venture out sporting the season’s boudoir trend, I would love to see! Send me your photos and tell me your tales at letters@fashionmagazine.com.
