Your Favourite ’90s Rom-Com is Getting a Modern-Day Reboot Thanks to Mindy Kaling
The ’90s reboots show no sign of slowing down. Yesterday, Hulu announced a limited series adaptation of Four Weddings and a Funeral, written and executive produced by Mindy Kaling. The beloved 1994 classic starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell is getting a serious 21st century makeover though. Hulu’s website states that the series will “follow a group of friends as their lives intersect through five events,” but in a smart move that swaps out nostalgia for modern-day realism, the series will be set in post-Brexit UK. And as an accurate reflection of life in 2018, the friendships and relationships at the heart of the series are going to be portrayed through a diverse cast.
“I’m talking Pakistani people. I’m talking black people. I’m talking old people, but not too many,” an AdWeek editor has quoted Kaling as saying at the series announcement. According to Variety, Kaling also quipped, “Don’t worry, there will be plenty of white people, too.”
Let the ‘dream cast’ wishful thinking begin.
