Andy Warhol was the accidental inspiration behind a limited-edition Salvatore Ferragamo shoe. Here’s how it happened: Warhol often wore Ferragamos–the only men’s style that the shoe designer ever personally created–in his studio, leading to the shoe to be streaked with paint. After the painter died, Ferragamo’s family bought a pair of the paint-speckled shoes at auction. The company has created replicas, which will go on sale in the next few days. [WWD]

Will someone please give Claudia Schiffer a clothing line?
Claudia Schiffer wants to become a designer. “I’ve been in this business for so long and developed my name globally, but I have no product to show for it. And I would love to develop it now,” she said yesterday at the IHT TechnoLuxury conference in Berlin. Schiffer expressed interest in affordable cashmere, because it’s “classic” and she “wears it all the time.”

Fashion news: Lucian Matis wins FDCC award, Gaultier does Target line and Karl heads to Argentina
Lucian Matis has been named the winner of the first FDCC Designer Development Fund award. The fund will be awarded annually in support of Canadian fashion designers who demonstrate potential for growth. A business mentorship with FDCC prez Robin Kay is part of the prize. “We want to extend the potential to build their brand and assist the designers with the necessary tools to help them emerge nationally and internationally in this new economy,” says Kay.
