The Culture Club: Toronto’s top 6 Sunday-brunch Caesars
Whether you like yours with an extra spicy rim on the glass or easy on the Tabasco, we’ve found the Toronto spots that make a Bloody Caesar worth getting out of bed for on Sunday.
1. School (70 Fraser Avenue, 416-588-0005, sbcto.com) This hopping joint always does the trick for a Saturday or Sunday brunch fest. We usually start with a healthy smoothie and then move into the Caesars. Very counter-intuitive but somehow makes us feel like we’re keeping our health in check.

Take it outside
The hotel bar is a bastion of old-school glamour, so we jumped on the chance to take our patio-ing up a notch last week at the Intercontinental’s SkyLounge, which opened with a splash on a glorious 24-degree evening, and not a moment too soon. Its sleek low loungers were filled with sun-deprived Toronto media faces, such as Jian Ghomeshi and Anne Mroczkowski, who nibbled delicious bites from Signatures restaurant and sipped the signature cocktail; Ernestine’s Elixir, with Hpnotiq, lychee liqueur and cran—$1 from each one sold will go to Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter. Providing a suitably sophisticated soundtrack (complete with harp) were students from the Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School, who will be strumming their stuff on the patio throughout the summer. We know what we’ll be doing at 5.02 p.m. on Thursdays…
Snaps from the party after the jump.

Showmance
With the first half of our fashionable summer filled with patio dining and light beer, we had a little love affair with the cocktail this past weekend. Another perk of the job, I was invited to the fifth annual Drinks Show, held at the Queen Elizabeth Building at Exhibition Place. At this year’s show there were over 100 gourmet cocktails to choose from. Upon meeting the Martini Club’s Michelle Hunt, co-founder of the Drinks Show, she whisked me to the whiskey booth where we tried the Mint Divine, which had Crown Royal Special Reserve shaken with fresh mint and lemonade and sprinkled with wild blueberries. Move over Corona, there’s a new bevvie in my town.
