Get the look: 14 velvet shopping picks that will have you feeling oh so luxurious for less
Back in 1399, King Richard II of England wrote in his will that he should only be buried in velvet from head to toe (how regal!). While Richie may have taken the velvet trend a little too far back way back when, we’re still dreaming about draping ourselves in velvet in 2012. What could be more luxurious?
This fall, we saw velvet on the runway of Gucci as well as voluminous pieces made by Dolce & Gabbana. These lush pieces were then snapped up by celebrities like Katy Perry who looked pretty as a princess in Dolce at her movie premiere in Los Angeles and Kim Kardashian who wore the low-cut Gucci number with Tom Ford chain heels while promoting Midori.

Get the look: Take animal prints literally with 10 cat, bird and snake picks under $100
Kanye West and Liv Tyler battled it out for who wore the Givenchy Rottweiler tee better and Hanneli Mustaparta repped crazy cat ladies everywhere in her cropped Opening Ceremony cat knit. Since then, the literal animal print has taken over streets.
Animals also took over New York Fashion Week and if it taught us anything, it’s that any animal goes. Proenza Schouler handed out ballcaps with embroidered cats at their spring 2013 collection’s after-party (how can we get one?!) and Marc Jacobs took the one and only Mickey Mouse and put him on a cropped sweater. And leave it to Man Repeller‘s Leandra Medine, to make the beaded sweater even cuter after she restyled it with a pair of boyfriend jeans on the set of Moda Operandi’s photoshoot of the collection. Only she can take Mickey Mouse from a man getter to a man repeller (hence her title).

Get the Look: 10 affordable pieces that up the ante on fall’s leather trend
From cut-outs to bright colours, we’ve noticed a few celebs trying fall’s leather trend early, and we approve of the many ways its being re-imagined. Eva Longoria wowed us when she donned a laser cut Marchesa dress at the premier of her latest flick earlier this summer, and Emma Stone earned some serious style cred in the red leather Monique Lhuillier number she wore on the Tonight Show. Both of the stars balanced their leather looks with ladylike accessories—Eva paired hers with black patent pumps, and Emma completed her ensemble with a matching pair of Christian Louboutin heels and red lips. To avoid the biker chick look, we suggest you take note of Longoria and Stone’s longer hemlines, and stick to softer, feminine silhouettes.

Get the Look: 10 stunning lacy picks à la Stella McCartney that will take you from summer to fall for under $150
It’s that time of year again—fall fashion has started to hit store shelves, but 30-degree days are way too hot for flannel and faux fur. To all you style mavens who have found yourself in fashion purgatory, fear not, the lace trend takes you from summer to fall with style to spare. This weekend, Jaime King and Emmy Rossum rocked the lacy trend at the 2012 Television Critics Association’s Summer Party. King paired her Stella McCartney Fall 2012 ensemble with Kate Spade accessories, and Rossum went sophisticate in a Zuhair Murad sheath. Both actresses showed lots of summer-appropriate bronzed skin, but the embellished frocks hit all the right fall style notes. We’d throw a blazer on top of Rossum’s ladylike dress, and pair King’s above-the-knee number with opaque tights and killer ankle boots to accommodate those cooler Canadian temperatures.

Get the Look: 10 ways to put a twist on the perfect white dress this summer for under $155
With temperatures soaring, summertime is the perfect time to ditch the dark colours and lighten up with the perfect white dress (the PWD?). Jessica Biel showed us that white can be sweet and sexy with the two white-hot looks she rocked last week—first at the ESPY Awards, where she donned a flouncy Dior frock with killer Nicholas Kirkwood pumps, and again at Comic-Con, where she played up her feminine figure in a sexy peplum curve-hugging number. Caroline Sieber showed us that white can be demure with the gorgeous Chanel sheath the stylist wore during couture week, and we love the way her fedora gives the ensemble the perfect punch of summer style. This season it’s all about white with a twist, and we’ve got ten white-hot picks that will give you standout style all summer long for less than $155.
