We’re especially into her sailor-inspired Alexander McQueen dress worn yesterday in Prince Edward Island, so much so that we’ve gone shopping in the name of the future Queen. Raise the roof
Hermès perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena has used India, Egypt and the Mediterranean as muses for the garden perfume series. This time he looked closer to home for inspiration. Un Jardin sur le Toit ($145, at Hermès) smells like the magnolia-infused air in Paris and the green-apple tree that grows on the rooftop above the luxe label’s headquarters.

Like its perfect partner, denim, western wear never really goes out of style. But every so often, the true grit trend has a runway revival, with designers reinterpreting its classic tenets in irresistibly modern ways. Spring 2011 was such a season: Ralph Lauren⎯but of course⎯corralled cowgirl cool with metallic boots, silver and stone jewellery and fringed leather, Blumarine went wild, belting flashy animal prints with oversized ram’s-head buckles and Hermès reigned in the look with chic equestrian details topped off with sophisticated Stetson-esque wide-brimmed hats.

There are many reasons why it is so much more enriching to be here in Paris seeing the fall 2011 collections firsthand, rather than simply viewing them on the web. Being alongside buyers and press from around the world puts everything in context.
