  • Episode 21: An unexpected friend

We open in Lauren’s computer class at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. Her instructor is calling the roll. "Lauren? Hey, Lauren. Daniella, her last name is Usher? Hi. Stephanie Pratt?" Lauren’s eyes widen as Spencer’s sister makes a fashionably late entrance and takes a seat only two down from hers. "The first day, it’s difficult for some people," the instructor says. Lady, you don’t know how right you are.

  • Toronto Fashion Week: Day four

    Until next time!

Shown: Robin Kay, FDCC President, and Executive Director of L’Oréal Fashion Week

As Fashion Week Fall 2008 came to an end, there was still some celebrating to be done. Thursday night’s festivities were in full swing by the time we ventured out. A brief stop at Ultra Supper Club for Paul Hardy and Travel Alberta’s pre-show cocktail (and some yummy baby kobe burgers) and we were off to the tents.

  • Paris: Day seven

    By Sarah Casselman

Shown: Chloé Fall 2008. Photography by Peter Stigter.

Back to the Accessories Show on Saturday morning with my Starbucks in tow (at this point in the week, caffeine and gel foot cushions are a fashion girl’s best friend). Ran over to the Chloé show and managed to squeeze into an amazing seat (perfect view of Anna and Bee) before the show began.

  • Paris: Day five

    By Sarah Casselman

Shown: Stella McCartney Fall 2008. Photography by Peter Stigter.

Started the day with Stella McCartney – big celeb draw (Kanye et fiancée, Twiggy looking very chic in her beret, Sir Paul), although judging from the mélange of oversize sunnies, there had definitely been some late-night revelry.

  • Milan: Day two

    By Susie Sheffman

Shown: Pringle of Scotland Fall 2008. Photography by Peter Stigter.

Seventeen hours in heels and still counting–now that’s a personal record for me! This is a marathon of a fashion week with an insanely jam-packed schedule that everyone is bitching about. I can barely recall the shows this morning, but seem to have a distant memory of mannish military inspiration and lots of lean leathers at Belstaff.

  • London: Day three

    By Leah Rumack

Shown: Christopher Kane Fall 2008. Photography by Peter Stigter.

Right, so I’ve been told to speed things up here in blog-land, so if you want the full force of my deep thoughts, you will just have to take me out for dinner.

    In the meantime…

  • New York: Day eight

    By Tammy Eckenswiller

Shown: Vera Wang Fall 2008. Photography by Peter Stigter.

Thursday kicked off with Vera Wang and this season it looked cooler–more sexy and street–than usual. Wang’s rich palette of gold and burgundy mixed well with the variety of luxe textures, accented by sparkly silver cuffs. The look was inspired by portraits by Dutch artist Kees van Dongen. Emerging trend: Detail on the back of looks–think silk bustles, tails of tulle and fur. See photos from this show.

  • New York: Day five

    By Tammy Eckenswiller

The buzz among the beautiful people today included Carla Bruni and French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s marriage, and Fabien Baron returning to Interview magazine as co-editorial director with Glenn O’Brien. Some people think it’s strange to have co-directors, but hey, if Mert and Marcus [fashion photography team] can do it, so can they! New crush: Canadian-N.Y.C. transplant and uber-stylist, Alex Slavycz, so pretty and follows a hard-core no-fur vegan mandate!

  • New York: Day four

    By Tammy Eckenswiller

Feeling sad (not really) for all of you poor Torontonians slogging through the slop and slush of that nasty snow storm on Friday while those of us in N.Y.C. click around happily in our new stilettoes and light winter coats… The weather is like the beginning of spring here, sunny and mild! Thank goodness because it’s difficult to be fabulous in slush-friendly gear!

  • Party all the time

On a chilly night, the Sexy in the City party steamed up the holiday scene on December 13. With other high-profile parties taking place the same night (such as the madly talked about CTV Holiday Christmas party), Sexy in the City, sponsored by Ford Models and L’Oréal, was the first stop of the night for many.

  • ‘Tis the Season

With the holidays fast approaching, this fashionable girl has been hitting the scene. It has been quite a busy week, kittens, beginning on Friday at the newly renovated Windsor Arms tea room for high tea, and ending with the North American premiere of the non-alcoholic drink soon to be on everyone’s lips.

  • Roberto vs. Karl, Nelly and a Spice Girl

CELEB SPY: Star spottings around town.

Trick or treat: Canadian songbird Nelly Furtado was very generous this Halloween. Before jetting off to Munich for the MTV Europe Music Awards, the “Promiscuous” singer, with her bags packed and waiting by her front door, was handing out two big chocolate bars to each goblin and princess who happened to stop by her mid-town Toronto home. The next night in Germany she took home Album of the Year! Congrats, Nelly.
