In a world full of pseudo-stars (and plenty of real ones, too), you can easily get caught up in the ticker tape of new fashion names you “should know.” Every so often, though, a name comes up that conjures the perfect aha moment—like, ah, a true star has been born. Lately, that moment is being […]

5 steps to Rihanna: Everything you need to channel the fashion icon this Halloween
What you need to dress up as Rihanna for Halloween » In terms of fashion risks, outspokenness, and a rejection of gender, professional, or social norms, Rihanna proved in 2014 that she really does run this (and any) town. After winning the first-ever AMA Icon Award last November, she walked away with iHeartRadio’s trophy for […]

Lupita Nyong’o’s best beauty looks: 21 of the brightest lips, coolest manicures and most flawless skin
See Lupita Nyong’o’s best beauty looks »
In today’s edition of Least Surprising News in the World, Lupita Nyong’o‘s inevitable (and well-deserved) Vogue cover and shoot is out and it’s as beautiful as we expected. The Oscar-winner, Lancôme spokesperson, People Magazine‘s Most Beautiful Person, and all-around lovely human was interviewed by Hamish Bowles and photographed by Mikael Jansson for the July issue, and is literally glowing on the cover in a printed Prada dress.
Our favourite part of this gorgeous look is Lupita’s matchy-matchy nails, dress and lips. What was once a major style faux-pas is now a trend we stand firmly behind. In the past few seasons, monochromatic looks have really become one of the freshest ways to elevate your style, and that goes for makeup as well. Lupita’s very berry cover is bold, bright and perfectly suited for summer. Game, set, match.

Wearable technology just got way cool: Intel announces partnership with Opening Ceremony, Barney’s and the CFDA
Well, it looks like being at the forefront of cool is no longer enough. Earlier today, the CFDA, Barney’s New York and Opening Ceremony announced simultaneous collaborations with Intel to produce and market wearable technology. The first matter of business: a co-designed “smart bracelet” created by Intel and Opening Ceremony to be carried exclusively by Barney’s. Having these multiple stamps of approval will no doubt speed up technology’s fashion factor.

For the third year in a row, J.Crew has partnered with Vogue and the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) in support of the 2012 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners. And by that, we mean that the brand will have three more hella covetable capsule collections in-store later this month. This year’s winner, the handsomely bearded (had to) Greg Chait, of The Elder Statesman and runners-up, footwear designer Tabitha Simmons and jeweler Jennifer Meyer have each created a signature, limited-edition capsules for the brand.
Salivating already? You can sign up to receive a pre-shop notification beginning on May 8 in advance of the collection launch of May 22. But in the meantime, have a click through our photos for a mini tease.

Instagram, e-commerce apps and hackathons: Why the fashion industry is embracing technology more than ever
5 fashion websites and apps that you need to know about now »
Without a doubt, it’s time to take a closer look at what designers, fashion brands and industry fans have been getting up to online. From live-streaming fashion shows, envy-inducing social media chronicles, mobile shopping apps and e-retailer pre-sales, the fashion world is becoming more and more tech-oriented. And while customers love these new innovations, brands are also loving the benefits that come with increased technological and online engagement.
Rebecca Minkoff is one company that has had business thrive thanks to its digital presence, which includes an e-commerce site, blog and social media presence across Twitter, Instagram and, most recently, Vine. However, the biggest payoff came with the launch of the Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2013 jewellery collection via a YouTube video featuring Man Repeller blogger Leandra Medine. Uri Minkoff, CEO of Rebecca Minkoff, told WWD, “January [2013] became the biggest non-holiday e-commerce month sales wise in the company’s history. January jewelry sales specifically have increased by 250 percent over sales from November and December combined.”
Indeed, partnerships do make a difference, especially for fashion brands. Earlier this month two fashion-themed hackathons took place during New York Fashion Week. (Don’t worry, we also needed to Google the definition of hackathon: they’re collaborative events where developers gather to create a new app or software platform in a limited amount of time.)
