A FASHION Guide to Chicago, the Second City That’s Second to None
According to a study from Booking.com, over a third of Canadian travellers (38%) plan to take more weekend trips in 2019. Lollapalooza Style Snaps: 23 shots of bejewelled hairpieces, neon brights and fringe-wearing festivalgoers rocking out in Chicago
It seems like half of Canada spent last weekend in Quebec for Osheaga and the Montreal Fashion & Design Festival and the other half headed southwest to Chicago for Lollapalooza. And while both festivals had their fair share of rain, Lolla attendees showed off some sweet summer styles right through to Sunday night. Check out our shots from Grant Park by Toronto photographer Jillian Lockwood—fringe skirts, American flag-print cut-offs and loads of brightly-coloured items were popular as ever.

Toronto shop notes: Bling Tones
Meredith Marks knows how to shine. A former model, the Chicago-based accessories designer (and mother of three) launched her eponymous jewellery line in 2010. Since then, her modern-meets-vintage sparklers (hello, white-diamond and rose-gold teardrop earrings) have been spotted on A-listers such as Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox. Now, they’re swinging this side of the border. From May 4 to 13, Holt Renfrew is hosting an exclusive Meredith Marks (meredithmarks.com) trunk show at its flagship location (50 Bloor St. W., 416-922-2333, holtrenfrew.com).

Go continent-hopping with Diplo through his just-released documentary book
Diplo sprang to our collective consciousness as rap star M.I.A.’s DJ and collaborator (and, briefly, romantic partner). He’s gone on to record two albums as one half of Major Lazer and work with pop-dance artists such as La Roux, Santigold and Robyn, and he worked with Beyoncé on the beats for “Run the World (Girls).” Naturally, all of this led to a busy touring schedule. While he criss-crossed the globe, Diplo (a.k.a. Thomas Wesley Pentz) began to explore local music scenes in search of acts to sign to his Philadelphia-based Mad Decent label—notably baile funk from the favelas of Brazil, kuduro from Angola and “bounce” from New Orleans. Now, he’s released a book of the highlights from his journeys, 128 Beats Per Minute: Diplo’s Visual Guide to Music, Culture, and Everything in Between (Universe), with a foreword by the high priest of coolness, Alexander Wang.

Music festival style snaps: Pitchfork
This past weekend, Pitchfork Festival and its throngs of music-loving fans took over Chicago for three days of performances by the likes of Gang Gang Dance, Fleet Foxes, Animal Collective and Odd Future. Toronto gals Lauren Baker and Nicole Dagenais were there to catch all the stylish babes in the crowd as they rocked with some seriously cute shades and umbrellas all weekend long.

This just in… Target set to open in full force in Canada in early 2013 (and by full, we mean full)
Bullseye fans rejoice! Not only is Target coming to Canada, they’re practically sending in the troops! Early this morning at a press conference in Chicago, we learned that the mass retailer has already selected 105 Zellers sites in all 10 provinces, the majority of which will become Target stores. And that’s not just it… over 100 more are to be selected in the coming months. Beginning in early 2013, between 100 and 150 stores will be opening throughout the year.
