We’ve been thinking for a while now that in very short order were all going to be hooked into the hive mind with thin white wires, so the jewellery at Evan Biddell’s spring show was fairly apropos. Glittering robotic breastplates featured LG’s Chocolate phone, its screen glowing with the Biddell’s logo. (Hey, at least we didn’t spot any “Addicted to Biddell” T-shirts.)

Clothing wise, there was plenty of Biddell’s now signature cowls sprouting from tight tops and draped jersey drop-crotch jumpsuits, which, at their best, were indistinguishable from dresses. A grey piece had a skintight rubbery tank top that gave way to soft fabric that swirled beautifully around the body. Piecey, colour-block jackets were well-crafted and worth second look. A pair of preposterous pleated pants that extended from the body in scrunchy blue semi-circles were forgotten when a neon-coral dress with a deep V-neck came billowing out for the finale.

The closer at Evan Biddell’s post-apocalyptic show grabbed us with it’s brilliant coral-orange hue, but the way the fabric folded and billowed around the model–a protective cape in a stormy world–held us to the last glimpse. See all of FASHION‘s coverage of LG Fashion Week.

We all have fond memories of coloured denim, right? Evan Biddell hopes so. Of all the rock-steady looks he rolled down the runway–where ”styling” equalled ”more studded leather!” and the soundtrack was a deafening jam–what stood out most were streetwise separates in plum, teal and chartreuse.

Fifteen minutes late is no longer fashionable. This I learned the hard way, arriving to Carlie Wong’s sophomore outing just in time for her standing O. It wasn’t hard to see where that came from, once we caught up with runway footage of the “Glamourous Gangster” collection.

The Toronto chapter of Fashion Group International held its annual Night of Stars gala downtown at the Carlu recently, bringing out the brightest of Canadian fashion stars, natch. Though this fashionable girl was riding her couch due to a severe throat infection, details came pouring in fast and furious from my own fashionably lovely friends. Along with the night’s honorees—including twins Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared, designer Wayne Clark, Holt Renfrew’s Barbara Atkin, journo David Livingstone and interior-design guy Brian Gluckstein—the well-heeled crowd consisted of Zoomer mag editrix Suzanne Boyd (looking lovely in a lingerie-inspired ensemble), who arrived with Ian Hylton, Pink Tartan’s Kimberley Newport-Mimran was there with hubby Joe, who was presenting, Natalie Lecomte from Holts dazzled in a pistachio Greta Constantine mini, while eTalk’s Ben Mulroney arrived with fiancée Jessica Brownstein.

Nathan Phillips Square was abuzz with L’Oréal Fashion Week banter.  Topics du jour included: The article on Robin Kay in Toronto Life, model Coco Rocha walking in the Joe Fresh show, and who was wearing what in the front row.  Project Runway winner Evan Biddell’s show kicked off the fashion festivities and drew an impressive crowd, but his collection failed to hold their attention.  Note: Reality TV and the runway sometimes don’t mix.
