  • Glorious fall

As leaves turn red and yellow in a lovely chromatic symphony, Montreal is having a blast. Thanks to the long weekend I checked out a few movies at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema (nouveaucinema.ca); Patti Smith’s poetic biography was my favorite. On Saturday night Pop Levi played a few mellow songs at La Tanière. As more film nerds and hipsters came in, Ninja Tune’s DJs took over for a wild dance party. The festival goes until next week, so try to check it out—the films are amazing.

  • Pop goes the city

If you were wondering why Montreal was invaded by so many hipsters last week, I have the answer: Pop Montreal (popmontreal.com).

  • Cold-weather comfort

    By Michelle Bilodeau

As we snuggle in for our long winter’s nap, FASHION has discovered a few great spots on the web to satisfy our clothing appetite during the cold months ahead.

  • Rock ‘n’ Rowe

In contrast to her stark white collection from spring ’08, Ashley Rowe has taken a dramatic departure for fall with a collection simply titled “black.” With an invite from the former FASHION intern to the Miss Rowe trunk show taking place October 4th at Exhibition Place (285 Manitoba Dr) and all the buzz surrounding her label, I was eager to check out what she would have in store.

  • The new tote in town

In a season where ‘it bags’ are on the out, and updated classics are investment worthy, Jessica Jensen (shopjessicajensen.com) is a go-to designer. A Ryerson graduate with previous stints at Calvin Klein and Michael Kors, Jensen has honed her talent with the best of them. Her collection is a stunning selection of clutches and totes that are both luxurious in quality and timeless in their appeal.

  • Autumn anticipation

    By Natalia Ksiazek

On my way to work this morning, I finally felt a bit of fall in the air. It may have just been my anticipation to wear autumn’s chunky cropped-sleeved knits and peep-toe booties getting the best of me, but in any case, summer is definitely over and it got me thinking about my favourite fall piece: the coat. With so many styles to choose from this season, one doesn’t have to commit. Good thing too, because up-and-coming Canadian designer Mellinda-Mae Harlingten’s (mellinda-mae.com) latest coat collection makes it hard to pick just one.

  • Milan: September 25

    By Susie Sheffman

Sitting here anticipating the start of Dolce & Gabbana, one of the surefire highlights of the week—I secretly love the wait—it’s the same each season and I’ve come to relish the scene. In a few minutes J.Lo, Rihanna and Matthew McConaughey will have the paparazzi flashbulbs going wild.

Well here’s something I never thought I’d say: I loved the turquoise eyeshadow at Gucci! There’s something about the way the girls always look at a Gucci show, every single season, without fail. The makeup is super glossy gorgeousness and the hair is always bouncin’ and behavin’. Makes you want to be a Gucci girl. Or at least own the company, because all I can say after tonight’s show is ca-ching ca-ching!! Sitting front row and looking majorly svelte was Rihanna.

  • Catwalk calling

    By Stephanie Trendocher

You know the saying, “If you’ve got it, flaunt it,” well now’s your chance. This Friday aspiring models and fashionistas are invited to work the catwalk for a chance to win a spot in the LG Fashion Fusion runway show, which closes this season’s L’Oreal Fashion Week.

  • Shop your boyfriend’s closet

    By Stephanie Trendocher

After years of donning skinny jeans, I found myself yearning for a fresh updated look. Celebs were spotted trotting around town in wide leg styles, but it seemed that even Kate Moss couldn’t influence us to swap our stovepipes for looser fits.

  • Milan: September 20 and 21

    By Susie Sheffman

I’m here! Landed this morning and literally hit the ground running. Wish I could say the same for my suitcase, which obviously thought this week was Paris Fashion Week and ditched me for the City of Lights.
