This Fashion Insider Has Launched Her Own Accessories Line
Taking the elevator down into the Hazelton Hotel screening room helps explain how cool Lisa Corbo is. I’ve never been in this room, didn’t know it existed, and with its intimate VIP-style leather club chairs, I feel like I’m in on a local secret. Where better to launch Lisa Corbo Design? In person Lisa […]

How to look cool at a ball: A lesson in comfort from the Princess Margaret Hospital fundraiser

Altuzarra in Toronto! Our exclusive interview with the It designer while in town for Lunch with Margaret and George
See the Altuzarra Spring 2014 presentation photos »
This past Monday, international It boy Joseph Altuzarra hit Toronto for a presentation of his gilded Spring 2014 collection. The term “It boy” might sound a little diminutive when it comes to Altuzarra’s talents, but suffice to say, he’s got the “it.” In just 5 years, the Parisian born and New York based designer has gone from one to watch to mainstay, with a recent investment by Kering (formerly PPR), one of fashion’s largest holding companies. In town for Lunch With Margaret and George, an annual charity fashion put on by Yorkville boutique George C show benefitting The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, Altuzarra sat down with us exclusively for a pre-show interview in the spiny Galleria Italia of the Art Gallery of Ontario. After discussing recent Vuitton news (“great for them!”) and how he spent his weekend in the city (visiting the Royal Winter Fair, omg) We got to chatting about the past, present and future for Altuzarra.

Lunch with Margaret and George’s Derek Lam charity fashion show: 25 photos of the fanciest lunch-goers we’ve seen all year
View the Lunch with Margaret and George photos »
Designer Derek Lam was stuck in New York thanks to a Nor’easter that grounded many flights. But he was there in spirit at Toronto’s Shangri-La Hotel for the Lunch with Margaret and George fundraiser for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Some of the city’s most stylish donned the designer’s sleek white leathers for the occasion and hostess Lisa Corbo sparkled in Lam’s sequined deco shift. Models in 20 looks from the Spring 2013 Derek Lam collection wove through the tables, making for a yummy feast of boxy T-shirts in geometric guipure lace, a gold leather skirt whose panels seemed to be held together with black macramé and a silvery sweatshirt over a skirt of burgundy plastic curls. A cool $120,000 was raised for the cause, bolstered by another 15% of sales from the Derek Lam trunk show at George C later in the day. Adding more to the coffers? A gold-flecked lipgloss named “Believe,” conceived by Lisa Corbo.

We chat with Giles Deacon on all things ballet, Tumblr, and Cecil Beaton
Earlier this month, Brit master of quirk Giles Deacon popped by our fair city to take part in the first annual Lunch with Margaret and George, raising money for the Princess Margaret Foundation (the sold-out event collected a cool $200,000 for the cause). While at a trunk show the next day—and while the moneyed ladies […]

Q&A: Yigal Azrouël wants you to wear shorts with your jacket
Yigal Azrouël has been a darling of the fashion scene since he launched his womenswear line in 1998. (He branched out into menswear for Fall 2007.) Caitlan Moneta sat down with the Israeli–born, New York–based designer at Toronto’s George C. (21 Hazelton Ave., 416-962-1991), which carries both his lines, to talk men in shorts, artistic collaborations and soapy scents.
You started in womenswear before branching out into men’s. What prompted the move?
“For me, you know, it was kind of a natural evolution. Because I started, like I design for myself, like I do it, I create my own closet. I’m making my own collection for myself so I think what am I going to wear.”You showed all kinds of shorts for summer for men. What are some of your rules for dressing in shorts?
“You know, it’s summer time. Who said that jackets or suits have to be worn with the pants. You can wear it with a short with cool shoes or sandals. Definitely it’s a modern way of approaching menswear, you know. You can take a risk.
