Beyonce’s hot hot Heat launch party
When Solange Knowles tells you to “Stop Twittering, put away your phones and dance,” you do. Ms. Knowles, who actually uses far choicer, more imperative words, is spinning Michael Jackson for a crowd that, by and large, is surrounding her older sister with an amphitheatre of phone cameras for Twitpic-ing purposes. The older sister in […]

New York street style: Texture message
We’re suckers for texture and this Lovely has it in spades. A crinkly skirt topped with a furry bolero over a slick leather vest, all in a subtle palette of blacks and grey shot through with a chunky multi-coloured necklace.

New York street style: Camera obscura
We’re not sure how this Lovely’s jeans manage to be both slim and slouchy, but we love it. Add a Minnie Mouse tee, a slightly askew cap and vintage camera and you’ve got a cool look with a touch of quirk.

New York: Jill Stuart Fall 2010
Astor Hall in the New York Public Library was the ideal setting for Jill Stuart’s fall collection to come to life from the pages of her sketchbook. Rich green velvet speckled with gold glitter was shown as a backless mini-dress while dark wool trenchcoats fall almost, but not quite, down to the floor.

New York street style: The amazing technicolor puffa coat
Who’s up for some Tetris? We’re getting a gamer vibe from this streeter’s colour-blocked coat. Or maybe he’s a cold-weather raver? Either way we love it when outerwear strays from standard black.

Shop like a Gossip Girl
Goodbye Carrie and Samantha, hello Blair and Serena! The pop culture fashionettes who are putting New York City on the shopping map these days are a whole new generation of style. So if you’re planning to head to the Grande Pomme for a shopping trip, do it like a Gossip Girl would. First things first, set up base camp at The New York Palace (455 Madison Ave., newyorkpalace.com). The posh midtown spot is practically a character in the show (Chuck Bass has a suite there, Serena lived there, Serena and Blair eat there) and many of the show’s scenes are shot in its various rooms. Speaking of rooms—the bathrooms alone are giant enough to store a week’s worth of conspicuous consumption, and the location—adjacent to Bergdorfs and within skipping distance (wear flats!) of several GG-friendly stores—makes it’s the dream spot for a retail rendezvous. Or ten.
