Montreal shop notes: Puppy love
HUSH PUPPIES $160. Photography by Carlo Mendoza. If you could walk a mile in my shoes (and I’m talking four-inch heels here), your feet would jump for joy.

Calgary: Minimalist denim kicks
Photography by Carlo Mendoza On trend but not over the top, these minimalist denim kicks by TOMS ($65, at Holt Renfrew, 510 Eighth Ave. SW, Calgary, 403-269-7341, holtrenfrew.com) give your blue-jean basics a modern twist without blowing your budget. Even better: The company donates one pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair sold.

The daily steal: Floral print flats, $10
Photography by Carlo Mendoza Given my recent obsession with peonies, roses and hydrangeas (clearly I’ve got weddings, specifically my own, on the mind), I couldn’t let these darling Liberty-inspired print flats ($10, George at Walmart, fashionbygeorge.ca) escape my Bridezilla grip. They’re perfect to wear now with a favourite skirt and woolly tights and later, come spring, with Derek Lam’s sleek white trench.

Canadian shoe designer creates Tron-inspired sandal
Quebec-born shoe designer Jerome C. Rousseau (jeromecrousseau.com), whose celeb fans include Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz, Kristen Stewart and French indie actress Roxane Mesquida (star of the designer’s new campaign), was tapped by Disney to create a shoe to celebrate the launch of Tron Legacy, which opens December 17. It was a fortuitous opportunity–Rosseau loved the […]

The daily steal: Velvet shoe, $80
We have a major crush on velvet this week, so of course we fell in love with these peep-toe beauties from Aldo ($80, aldoshoes.com). They come in black as well, but it’s hard to resist a tall glass of burgundy.

Alexander Wang lightens up his accessories for spring
Fashion’s wunderkind Alexander Wang has released images of his Spring 2011 accessories collection and much like his recent ready-to-wear collection, which the designer called “optimistic” and “pure,” the accessories line is a light and airy departure from his usually dark colour palette.
Past Wang best-sellers like the Rocco tote, the Diego bucket bag and the Freja open-toe booties received an update, courtesy rose gold hardware and pastel pebbled leather.
Standout pieces include an edgy satchel with multiple straps, ladylike frame bags and slouchy totes with studded bottoms. And for those who fear pastels, there are plenty of black pieces to round out your urban uniform.

The daily steal: Suede pumps, $50
I love a plain pump in a great colour and these suede shoes from Urban Outfitters (urbanoutfitters.com) are available in six shades (including black and red–but not blue). And at only $50 a pair means I can grab them in yellow. And grape. And grey. And…

The daily steal: Fleece-lined booties, $140
Like the short-sleeve coat, one would never expect a creation like the high-heel utilility boot to work. Yet somehow, through the alchemy of fashion, it does–as evidenced by these fleece-lined beauties from Aldo ($140, aldoshoes.com).

The daily steal: Suede wedge booties, $120
I’m pining after these suede wedges from Mango ($120, mango.com). Problem: They’ve already made two appearances at our office–one editor has them in black, another picked them up in grey. Solution: They also come in a delicious chocolate brown.

The daily steal: T-strap clogs, $36
As the rainy days start to become more frequent, the move to closed-toe shoes becomes more of a practical necessity—enter the clog. There is a plethora of brands doing clogs, but the T-strap detail on this pair ($36, canada.forever21.com) gives a nod to more lady-like forties styles and makes them a little bit different.
