When planning an outfit for a film festival, visions of walking the red carpet in five-inch stilettos come to mind.  But in the case of the Guelph Festival of Moving Media (November 7 to 9, festivalofmovingmedia.ca), walking in flats is perhaps more fitting.

As we snuggle in for our long winter’s nap, FASHION has discovered a few great spots on the web to satisfy our clothing appetite during the cold months ahead.

I don’t think I could blog about fashion in Vancouver without mentioning the rain at least once, so let me just get it out of the way right now. Yes, it rains a lot here in Vancouver, and yes, it sometimes affects the way we dress. Unfortunately, practicality and fashion sense are often at odds with one another. But when you do find that perfect piece where form meets function, you know it’s a must have.

The shoe bootie, which I am affectionately calling the shootie, is the quintessential shoe of the season. I can’t wait to wear mine with a cardigan and pencil skirt à la Michael Kors. But the shootie is not just about secretary chic; it will also add a dose of punk to my fall wardrobe when worn with leggings and leather. What other shoe (or boot, for that matter) can claim to be quite so versatile? This gorgeous pair from Donald J Pliner ($525), found at Mayfair Shoes, is a well-stacked heel above the rest.

With all the summer sales happening right now, it’s a wonder I have any space left in my closet to accommodate all my recent purchases. But then I saw this Rakku shoe wheel (rakkudesigns.com) for $60 at my local Home Outfitters store (homeoutfitters.com), and it seemed that all my shoe storage woes were a thing of the past!

The countdown is officially on.  I am leaving for Nantucket in less than four weeks and my packing panic has already set in. On top of my basics—Ralph Lauren swimsuit, J.Crew T-shirts, Milly sundress and Michael Kors woven tote bag—I know that my bags will also be stuffed to the gills with every lotion and label in my closet.

When you think of Geox shoes, stylish, swanky footwear isn’t what normally comes to mind—try granny-variety loafers and not-so-chic driving shoes as images that pop up instead.

There is nothing a FASHION editor likes more than a touch of luxe after a long day at the office.  And when it comes to luxe, two bon mots come to mind: Michael Kors.  Some may know him from Project Runway, but he is best known as one of America’s pre-eminent designers of luxury sportswear.  His ad campaigns (think aviator-wearing, python bag–toting, sun-kissed, glowing glamour girls) perfectly capture the essence of the luxe lifestyle, PJs (that’s private jets, love) and all.   So, when MK opened his third lifestyle store in Canada at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, the Tinsley Mortimer set from north of the border came out in droves.
