Murale puts beauty on display
Beauty babes ’round town have been abuzz since Shoppers Drug Mart’s upscale cosmetic mecca Murale finally landed in Toronto (we’ve had to wait patiently as locations opened in Ottawa and Montreal first) the first week of September at the Shops at Don Mills. Upon entering the store at the media event, I was instantly drawn like a moth to a flame to the Nars display where a nail polish by the name of “M. Butterfly” was calling my name….

Shop like a Gossip Girl

Photography courtesty of A Channel Goodbye Carrie and Samantha, hello Blair and Serena! The pop culture fashionettes who are putting New York City on the shopping map these days are a whole new generation of style. So if you’re planning to head to the Grande Pomme for a shopping trip, do it like a Gossip Girl would. First things first, set up base camp at The New York Palace (455 Madison Ave., newyorkpalace.com). The posh midtown spot is practically a character in the show (Chuck Bass has a suite there, Serena lived there, Serena and Blair eat there) and many of the show’s scenes are shot in its various rooms. Speaking of rooms—the bathrooms alone are giant enough to store a week’s worth of conspicuous consumption, and the location—adjacent to Bergdorfs and within skipping distance (wear flats!) of several GG-friendly stores—makes it’s the dream spot for a retail rendezvous. Or ten.
Don’t know where to start? Here’s our handy Shop Like a Gossip Girl guide:

Montreal: Amherst Street’s design headquarters
If you go antique shopping on Amherst Street, as many Montrealers fed up with Ikea do, you’ll find the most exquisite little boutique that has nothing to do with furniture. Headquarters Galerie + Boutique (1649 Amherst St., 514-678-2923, hqgalerieboutique.blogspot.com), run by Angie Johnson and Tyson Bodnarchuk, the loveliest couple in town, is a two-floor space that gives exposure to Montreal artists (including Bodnarchuk) and tons of local designers (including Johnson). -
Style resolution
As the clock struck midnight on December 31, a close friend of mine declared that 2009 was our “year to shine”—and I couldn’t agree more. While, sure, my New Year’s resolutions include a few of your garden variety promises (vows to workout more, eat out less, and be on time!), how about a few fashion resolutions, too? Here are three that I’ve come up with.

Chanel 2009 Resort, South Beach pre-show

The town is crawling with everything and everyone Chanel as they get ready for Chanel’s resort presentation tonight around the pool at The Raleigh hotel (I was a bit blue to hear it was going to be a pool, I was hoping for a show on boats in shark infested waters. And Don Johnson!). Every elevator is full of impossibly chic Paris girls in oversized Chanel watches and "I don’t care if my hair is messy you’ll never be as beautiful and slim as me" airs (insert smoky French laugh here.)
