  • Edmonton: Mayfair lady

The shoe bootie, which I am affectionately calling the shootie, is the quintessential shoe of the season. I can’t wait to wear mine with a cardigan and pencil skirt à la Michael Kors. But the shootie is not just about secretary chic; it will also add a dose of punk to my fall wardrobe when worn with leggings and leather. What other shoe (or boot, for that matter) can claim to be quite so versatile? This gorgeous pair from Donald J Pliner ($525), found at Mayfair Shoes, is a well-stacked heel above the rest.

  • Island hopping

I recently spent an amazing weekend in Tofino at Roxy Surf Camp (slide show coming soon!), but the trip had me thinking of my favourite must-stops on Vancouver Island.

  • San Francisco treat

  • I (heart) New York

All of us fashionable ladies in the office can hardly contain ourselves when talk turns to Sex and the City: The Movie. (We’ve already bought our matinee tickets for May 30th!) So when I was asked to come by Davids on Bloor Street for an intimate little cocktail party to show off their Sex-themed windows, I could not pass it up. For the first time ever, Davids decided to unveil a window theme for their flagship store, with well-thought-out selections showing off the style of the four major females in the film (as well as the four leading men). Sponsored by Skyy Vodka, the low-key affair also showcased five yummy cocktails based on each of the women and one for Mr. Big, natch. The Samantha was naturally tarty, the Carrie was more refined, and so on.

  • Hello from beautiful Barcelona!

I’ve spent the morning wandering around all the shops near my hotel (think: Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Burberry) and the independent boutiques down in the old medieval city. I’ll let you in on my finds soon (i.e., when I can get my pictures off my camera!).

  • Sundance: Day one

The narrow streets of Park City are jammed with luxury SUVs, rented by visiting captains of the film industry. The shops and restaurants of Main Street have been emptied and converted into a strip of temporary “lounges” carrying the names of Skyy Vodka and Microsoft. Pedestrians consist of conspicuous black-clad journalists charging down the street, often overheard on their Blackberries saying “We’ll touch base,” while celebrities, including Kirsten Dunst, Josh Hartnett, Paris Hilton and Matthew McConaughey, roam the main drag in designer alpine gear—making Main Street the best place to hang out and star-gaze.

  • A day in the life

    By Kate MacLennan

Once every few months the stars in the fashion universe align and the dedicated fashion editor finds herself triple booked every day for a week with events. So many soirees, so little time.

  • Episode 7: They Meet Again

Hillside Villas. Audrina returns home after a weekend away with Justin Bobby. She tells Lauren that she and J.B. “had good talks, fooled around and were silly,” and that J.B. finally agreed to be her boyfriend. We don’t see him in this episode, though, because he’s at home recovering from his lobotomy.

  • The Perfect Fall Coat

When August approaches, I get this defeatist attitude and make comments like, “It’s already winter.” I start to notice how night sets in minutes earlier with each passing week. And if that wasn’t bad enough, I begin to feel the lovely first signs of seasonal affective disorder. On the bright side, fall is my favourite fashion season, and one way I can combat the terminal winter condition is to piece together the perfect winter wardrobe.
