  • Everything We Know About Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s Royal Baby

On the morning of October 15, Kensington Palace dropped some major news: Meghan Markle is pregnant. It was a big announcement, and it left us asking a lot of unanswered questions. Will the Royal Baby share a birthday with its royal cousin? Will the Royal Baby be a Prince or a Princess? A Lady or […]

  • We’ve got the scoop and all the looks from Agyness Deyn’s 90s-inspired collection for Dr. Martens

    See the collection! »

Since most of us are still riding the wave of Britannia fanaticism post-London Olympics, news that Brit model Agyness Deyn has teamed up with famed London label Dr. Martens for a capsule collection could not be better timed.

Deyn, who first scored a pair of Dr. Martens boots at the age of 13, has been the face of the brand for the past two years. Her debut 29-piece collection will now have her at the helm of many design collaborations to come (a spring/summer 2013 line is already wrapped up). The collaboration pulls heavily from Deyn’s own signature grungy aesthetic, while also finding inspiration from style icons of the ‘90s.

Clever, humourous product names are nothing new–Benefit pretty much built their following on it (and it’s half the reason we can’t wait to see what they come out with next). But with so much seriousness taken in beauty, we never tire of seeing a product take the piss out of lofty claims like plumping and slimming.

  • London: September 19

I write this from the back of the number 70 bus, my trusted shuttle service this week for the daily back-and-forth from my West End flat to London Fashion Week’s HQ in South Kensington. It’s the last day of shows today, three to go and counting!

Caught up in a delayed tube line, a maddeningly late bus and typically congested Oxford Street traffic to start, I found myself on a foreign block in Bloomsbury dashing down cobblestone roads in croc platform heels, frantically searching for “The Dairy,” site of Erdem’s Spring 2009 show.

Day three, and the skies are still looking friendly. That should be some kind of rain record for this city, no? Word on the street says it’s going to last all week. Hurray! That means bare legs, minis and towering stilettos will stay out in full force for the rest of Fashion Week.

The best part of day two was at 8:30 p.m. when a Beatle sang in my ear. Now I know Sir Paul McCartney doesn’t normally fit on a fashion blog but when one of the world’s most legendary musicians is standing right beside you at his daughter’s charity auction that’s something to write about!

In a toast to my adopted homeland, I’m writing my first London Fashion Week blog with a cup of English Breakfast tea in hand. After an exhausting first day running from South to North to Central London, I’m ready to tuck in with or without the traditional crumpet and jam.

Luella Bartley Something wicked this way came at Luella’s witchy-inspired show, though thankfully the stated paganism was kept to a dull roar with a bit of coloured stitching at the top of puff-sleeved peasant blouses and high-heeled clogs, a few pointy hats and bright orange tights.

Ossie Clark: Not sure how I felt about this baby, and judging by the merely polite applause after the show for new designer Avsh Alom Gur’s offerings, many of my comrades felt similarly conflicted. While some retro touches, like bright shift dresses and oversize buttons evoked the glory days of old, most of it failed to inspire. Hmmm…was it best to let sleeping seventies labels lie?

  • Sundance: Day one

The narrow streets of Park City are jammed with luxury SUVs, rented by visiting captains of the film industry. The shops and restaurants of Main Street have been emptied and converted into a strip of temporary “lounges” carrying the names of Skyy Vodka and Microsoft. Pedestrians consist of conspicuous black-clad journalists charging down the street, often overheard on their Blackberries saying “We’ll touch base,” while celebrities, including Kirsten Dunst, Josh Hartnett, Paris Hilton and Matthew McConaughey, roam the main drag in designer alpine gear—making Main Street the best place to hang out and star-gaze.

Fur and Gold by Bat for Lashes

Taking her moody freak folk cues from the likes of Coco Rosie, Bat for Lashes (a.ka. British songwriter Natasha Khan) has released her debut album, Fur and Gold, a haunting collection of late-night concoctions, perfect for pondering the universe, opining about how Radiohead is so over (but thanks for the inspiration Thom!), and dreaming about fallen heroes.
