The first shows in London were under-attended due to the tornado in New York, but in London the weather’s fine and after a restful night at the May Fair Hotel and a lovely car ride with my assigned driver for the week (thanks, British Fashion Council!), I started the day at the Bora Aksu show. (Loved the ant-trail-printed tights. Wonder if—hoping—those will be produced?)

It’s the last day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week but it’s not a teary farewell.  After all, I get to start my morning off with a little classic Americana–Ralph Lauren!

Judging from all the fringe, cowgirl jackets, suede and blanket patterns seen on his spring runway, it looks like we’re heading to the ranch with Ralph. Even Lauren’s wife, Ricky Lauren, got into the country cool spirit in her fringe-y little jacket.

Talk about maximum impact with minimal adornment: This streeter’s red suit does all the work (with a little help from Kate Moss).

No white after Labour Day? Pfffft. If anything proves that old saw is, well, an old saw, it’s this streeter’s dramatic white maxi dress.

Fringed bags

A true A-list front row. (No reality stars, please!)

You’ve probably heard: Neutral hues are in this fall. We like the way this streeter layers on the browns and creams, without grabbing the season’s neutral standby–the camel coat. (Not that we have any problem with those, mind.) The long skirt, booties and frilly socks have a Road to Avonlea vibe, but the cropped waistcoat is most certainly modern day.
