A behind-the-scenes look at Sid Neigum’s London Fashion Week debut
“I think Canadians are self-loathing, or we don’t think we’re cool,” Alberta-born, Toronto-based designer Sid Neigum tells me in his studio. “Something’s not good until it’s sold internationally. We see that in music all the time [too].” This issue is one that all Canadian designers are well-versed in. Since his debut at Toronto Fashion Week in […]

Aldo Rise Fall 2013: The scoop and photos from the latest collaborations with Roksanda Ilincic and Preen
See the Aldo Rise Fall 2013 collections from Roksanda Ilincic and Preen »
Building on the success of previous collaborations, Aldo has partnered with Preen and Roksanda Ilincic for its ongoing Aldo Rise collaboration series for Fall 2013. Aldo Rise, which has previously worked with designers such as J.W. Anderson and Mark Fast, creates footwear exclusively for designers to show in their runway collections. Aldo then produces the styles and sells them in their stores around the world. This is the fourth season Preen has worked with Aldo, and the second season for up and coming designer Roksanda Ilincic.
The Aldo Rise shoes were presented during both of the designers’ recent London Fashion Week presentations. At Preen, Creative Director Justin Thornton described the vibrant red heels as “tough and sexy with a collage of textures and finish.” In basic shapes that are actually realistic for everyday wear, these shoes are elegant with a touch of edge.

LFW Diary: More brilliant showings from Peter Pilotto, Burberry, and Christopher Kane. Plus, Kanye shows up front row at Mark Fast!
It brings a tear to my eye that London Fashion Week is almost all over for another season—but my feet are not-so-silently rejoicing. A 9 a.m. start at Peter Pilotto meant leaving the house just past 8 this morning, but it was worth it. The Topshop venue, which is the old Billingsgate Market this season, always serves up coffee, tea, and all sorts of yummy dishes (yesterday there was a creamy soup with truffle oil; today there was porridge for breakfast); there’s also the NewGen pop-up where I scored the Erdem tank with a blue porcelain print and white lace collar and the Mary Katrantzou floral tee. Breakfast, shopping, and a show? Every day, please.

LFW diary: A day of standouts from Erdem, Peter Pilotto, Christopher Kane, Burberry, Mark Fast, and Giles! (Woah!)
Today was a day of standouts at London fashion week, from Peter Pilotto to Christopher Kane and Erdem. The other shows today? Burberry, Mark Fast, and Giles, all of which included some great pieces. Burberry had cropped parkas, African-inspired geometric beading, and straw riding hats with pompoms, while Mark Fast featured looser knits—almost crochet-like, in some cases—on dresses. At Giles we saw swan headpieces by Stephen Jones and laser-cut red leather gown worn by our very own Kate King.

Dream collaborations
From the upcoming Versace for H&M collaboration to Danier’s ongoing Canadian-on-Canadian capsule collections with the likes of Mark Fast, Greta Constantine and FASHION contributor George Antonopoulos, high-low team ups are continuing to bring luxury designs to the masses. We haven’t had enough. In fact, we vote for more! Here are four mega-designers and Canadian stores that we think should get together and jump on the bandwagon post-haste.

Will she fly our flag or hers? We’re dying to find out. To help you kill the next few hours of anticipation, we’ve compiled a detailed list of Brit and Canadian designers we think Kate should wear at the occasions she’s slotted into her schedule over the next eight days. If we’re right, we’ll be treating you all to crumpets.

FASHION plates: Get Beyoncé’s “Run the World” look!
By Randi Bergman and Jordan Porter
There isn’t much else that can top a great pop song… except maybe the video. And the video for Beyoncé’s latest single, “Run The World (Girls)” has got us here at FASHION in a dance-infused tizzy. Forget working, we’re too busy trying to emulate the bangin’ choreography and the warrior-like costumes. While we’ll have to wait till never to get our hands on the Gareth Pugh, Emilio Pucci, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy Couture and Jean Paul Gaultier we’ve pulled together a list of readily available items to quench your Beyoncé thirst for the time being. WHO RUNS THIS MOTHER?
