Fall Fashion 2014: 231 photos of the top 10 trends of the season
See the entire Fall fashion 2014 trend report »
From the food aisles to a galaxy far, far away, Fall 2014’s fashion narrative is just as varied as the many women who’ll likely fall for its manifold charms.
Call it the Lorde effect (or blame it fashion’s ever-growing obsession with Game of Thrones), but designers across all four major fashion cities seemed to fall under the dark spell of moody heroines. At Dolce & Gabbana, dresses were made to scrape that forest floor. At Valentino, capes shrouded the wicked and at Rodarte and Preen, Star Wars prints were made for the modern day Princess Leia.

And while normcore may have mounted last season’s defence to street style’s increasing zaniness, Fall fashion 2014 is rife with ways to make statements. Flashbulbs will no doubt capture this season’s array of larger than life outerwear, from the utilitarian parkas on Alexander Wang’s robotic runway to Burberry’s painterly blanket coats. Meanwhile, fur was back with a brightly hued vengeance, ombréd at both Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs, and in Crayola checks at Altuzarra. At Lanvin and Marni, fur was layered in wrap form over everything from short suits to sweatshirts.
This season’s accessories are especially light-hearted, with everything from a McDonalds Happy Meal to a carton of milk inspiring fall fashion 2014’s bags at Moschino and Chanel respectively. There were fur muffs at Tory Burch, crystal-incrusted snoods at Alexander McQueen and knee-highs á la Vivian Ward at Versace and sneakers once again staking their claim at Chanel.
If there ever were a time to pick your poison, it would be now.

Top Fall 2014 Trends: 226 runway and street style photos of fashion month’s 10 biggest moments

Your first time at any international fashion week will teach you a valuable lesson: You need a fur. And not just any Margot Tenenbaum style granny hand-me-down. A fur so intricately patterned, multi-layered and artificially coloured, that it has to be designer. Given its place at the apex of the top Fall 2014 trends, you’d think recessionary times were long gone—it’s virtually everywhere, from a hyper colour mink at Altuzarra to a fluffy red dress at Prada. Wear it with caution or as Dior prescribes, dangle it over your arm like it’s no big d. Let the fur fly, scruples or otherwise.

Line Knitwear Fall 2014: 30 looks that prove sweater dressing is trending next season
See the Line Knitwear Fall 2014 collection »
Pink is the new neutral when it comes to cold weather dressing (we can thank Carven, Céline and Miu Miu for starting that trend last fall) and this season Line Knitwear designers John Muscat and Jennifer Wells have fallen for the shade’s feminine wiles. From bright and bold to pale and powdery, the design duo embraced their softer side this season with a spectrum of playful pinks in drapey magenta shawl coats, fuchsia wool motos and pale pink angora crops.
Speaking of angora, the soft downy wool appeared in almost every runway look as sweater, skirt, tube top, short and—most prolific—the shoulder snood, which was worn shrug-like over tunics, bustiers, jumpsuits, even swingy shawl collar coats. (Put a snood on it?)

Fall 2013 Trends: 100 runway and street style photos of fashion month’s top 10 biggest moments
See the biggest Fall 2013 fashion trends »
See all our fashion month coverage »Fashion month may have finally wrapped, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to forget about the trends that emerged for Fall 2013 on the many runways of New York, London, Milan, Paris and Toronto—In fact, it’s time for them to take front and centre. While shoppers everywhere are snapping up the best of the selling floor’s offerings for spring and summer, designers, buyers and editors alike are busy prepping ahead. And since we know y’all like to keep ahead of the curve, we’ve sorted through hundreds of photos and selected 10 of the top Fall 2013 trends so that you can mentally prep (and save) too!
Next season, it’s all about fur, which landed in both faux and real on runways including Marni, JW Anderson, and most strikingly at Fendi, where it was combined in a dizzying multitude of punky ways. The 1990s were back for another resurgence, continuing Spring 2013’s grunge trend at Saint Laurent in Paris and Chloé Comme Parris right here at home. On the street, the look was easily created by many fashion week attendees who layered plaids on waists, under jackets and even on tights. And while practically speaking, it may be no major surprise that outerwear was one of the top Fall 2013 trends, this show season we saw jackets take on new forms with quilting, oversized shapes and bold colours which were mirrored outside the shows, with equally interesting choices hitting the pavement
Here are 100 images to help jog your memory of the top Fall 2013 trends spotted inside and outside of the fashion week stents, so sit back, click through, and relive the fashion month in all its street style and runway glory.

Line Knitwear Fall 2013: Cozy textures get an update with metallic overprints and an abundance of turtleneck collars
See the Line Knitwear Fall 2013 collection »
Fall 2013, as envisioned by the thick knits and layers and layers of texture from Line Knitwear, is going to be a cozy, sleek season. Line may be known for loose cardigans and shawl-style sweaters, but it was the structured toppers, slender leather pieces and patterned knits that really made the Fall 2013 collection stand out. Additionally, an abundance of bare legs confirmed that the long sweater and circle skirt silhouette is the look to follow this fall.
Inspired by “the idea of a gilded urban city,” the collection was heavy on black and rich shades of charcoal, green and plum—but highlighted with touches of gold and silver shimmer. An impressive black crocheted sweater was styled overtop a sheer gold blouse with an asymmetrical hem that left a holographic trail behind as the model walked down the runway. Metallic splashes on one sweater looked so accurately placed it was easy to mistake the gold overprint for actual woven fibres, while oversized sequins on a black turtleneck looked positively mermaid-ish. Skinny gold belts added a metallic touch to cream coloured knits, while also making chunky sweaters and jackets look much more svelte. And when pants did make an appearance, they too were embellished with texture and hits of gold or silver.

TFW Diary: Über graphics meet the Fair Isle in Line’s stellar fall collection
View the full collection »
See all Toronto Fashion Week coverage »Line has us covered for all sorts of cozy knits come fall. Combined with slimmer underpinnings the collection features knobby knits in rich eggplants, oranges, and greens. The best looks were schoolboy inspired—picture: über graphic-meets-Fair Isle knits topping untucked oxford shirts and bulky trousers. The results were just as successful when sweaters were layered atop sweaters (shocker!) and paired with a sheen-y (but not quite metallic) skinny pant.
And while our ever-picky eyes couldn’t help but focus on the somewhat puzzling inclusion of fur-knuckled fingerless gloves (nor the redundant black leather leggings, if we’re being honest), we have a mile high ‘want’ list of stylish Line knits for fall.
