Long live pyjamas! From slip-dresses to robes, we decode the trend’s rise to the top
Lounging is a lost art. Sure, our society of superheroes can tweet, Snap and Instagram around the clock—while still punching the actual clock at 9-to-5 jobs—but somehow in the whirl of 24/7 engagement we no longer possess the skill to chill. Sprawling elegantly on a bed or sofa swathed in something silky, like a screen […]

Who wore it best at the Girls Season Three premiere party?
Last night’s New York premiere of Girls Season Three was like something out of my fantasies. Natasha Lyonne, Steve Buscemi, Gaby Hoffman and Anna Wintour (in a Spring 2014 Prada fur) all at one party. Holy wow. Given how much “the ladies” (a.k.a. me) adore the show, its pretty fitting that I’d be seething with jealousy at this motley crew. So, like… can I at least pick apart their outfits? Just kidding, I have nothing bad to say.
Co-stars Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet pulled the colour co-ordination card, all favouring shimmering metallic, a forthcoming Spring 2014 trend, in their looks for the night.

While you were sleeping: A writer takes the pyjama dressing trend out of the boudoir and into the light of day
When I was growing up, I used to visit my grandmother in Palm Beach, where she wintered in a conch-pink pseudo Spanish-style condo called (accurately) La Bonne Vie. My favourite activity was grocery shopping at Palm Beach’s Publix—a glamorized supermarket washed a bunny-nose pink with valet parking and bougainvillea-swathed archways. Here, tycoons with Hermès-orange suntans and manses on Billionaire’s Row shuffled through the aisles dressed in silken Persian pyjamas and monogrammed velvet bedroom slippers, carts full of crab salad, their long-suffering chauffeurs waiting outside in purring Bentleys. Wearing pyjamas outside of the bedroom has historically been the habit of the egregiously wealthy, the eccentric, the hyper-medicated on day passes—and the freelance writer.

How to wear the boudoir trend: 4 Style Panel tips for rocking this season’s oh so trendy lingerie dress
Continuing on with this year’s ever-popular 1990s craze, the Fall 2013 runways went boudoir happy with a look back at one of the decade’s most popular items: the lingerie dress. Part Courtney Love shout out (that’s our cover girl!), part Hitchcockian ode, sexy slinky spaghetti straps made their way onto the runways at Marc Jacobs, […]

For the fashion-minded folk, fall is the time to go big or go home. It’s the time to fantasize about impossibly elegant wardrobes full of designer duds so delicious that they only exist in your dreams. We’re all about perpetuating fantasy, and today, we’re doing just that with the help of Los Angeles-based and Toronto-born illustrator Jamie Lee Reardin. Known for her leggy drawings of fashion icons for Moda Operandi, V Magazine and Dior Beauty, Reardin took her usual pencils to the next level by illustrating five of Fall 2013’s strongest looks using the insanely cool Windows app, Fresh Paint. The app, which we discovered on HP’s light as a feather Envy x2 tablet while on a trip to Stockholm with Windows earlier this year, allows you to paint on the screen, literally, with the use of sensor-induced paintbrush. It’s like using an oil canvas, but easier!

Fall Fashion 2013: 196 photos of the top 10 trends of the season

Or jump to trend: COAT | RIOT GIRL | GREY | PINK | SKIRT SUIT | PLAID | BOUDOIR | BLACK AND WHITE | PRINT | STATEMENT ACCESSORIES
Fall 2013 fashion is a lesson in extremes. There’s some serious push and pull when it comes to the stylistic female role in today’s society, and no place proves a better show than on the runway.
Skirt suits, the once-staple pairing for women’s fashion, were back for fall at Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Christian Dior, where models returned to New Look ideals. Nipped waists, strong shoulders and an ample cut of wool seemed to pose that the woman of the 1940s was ideal, at least this time around on the trend carousel. The return of the skirt, whether in-suit or otherwise, seems never more impactful than for this season, where it appeared in virtually every collection from Hérmes to Chanel. At Ports 1961, a mid-length circle skirt paired effortlessly with a grey bomber jacket and cable knit sweater to make the ultimate modern-casual statement.
To add to Fall 2013 fashion’s femme fest, Miu Miu, Carven, Giles and Jonathan Saunders embraced powder pink, the ultimate baby doll hue. Elsewhere, a soft palette of baby blue and winter whites seemed to point to a more innocent direction as well, especially when paired with fall’s boudoir trend. Most notably at Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, bed-headed models wore slinky lingerie dresses, fox-trim silk robes and lazily dragged stoles on the ground.

In addition to the babeular list of studs that includes Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey, Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, James Franco, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adam Levine and Chris Hemsworth, the ladies expected are pretty cray! Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock are just three! Shwing!
So without further ado, let’s make believe what 12 of TIFF 2013’s most hopeful attendees will be wearing to the festival’s premieres. Let’s make it happen!
