17 Tartan Items to Celebrate Your (Possibly Nonexistent) Scottish Heritage on National Tartan Day
Years ago, a friend introduced me to Scottish Wikipedia, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: a gag website where basic encyclopedic information is translated into a thick Celtic brogue. For example, the sentence “Hitler’s government occupied most of Europe” might translate into “Hitler’s govrenment controlled a muckle pairt o Europe.” The reason […]

How to Wear Plaid and Not Look Like You Belong In a Holiday Card
I was five-years old when my mother brought home a green tartan dress complete with itchy crinoline and a green velvet beret. I was ecstatic about wearing the uncomfortable pouf for my first piano recital. But since retiring the adorable ensemble I haven’t been able to touch tartan. For me it seems like something reserved […]

10 reasons we are still living for the tartan trend
I am not, nor will I ever be, Scottish—it is one of the greatest disappointments of my life. I’ll never be able to roll my Rs or drink Scotch without silently screaming inside. Yet, I’ve always had an affinity for the wild, sprawling plains of heather-clad Scottish moors (in my youth, and before Mel Gibson […]

Street Style, Toronto: 21 photos outside the tents
See street style from Toronto Fashion Week »
Despite dipping Toronto temperatures, stylish show attendees were keeping warm and heating up the streets of Toronto on day three of World MasterCard Fashion Week.
From capes to coats, layering was the key to taking outerwear from an essential to a fashion statement. Wooly sweaters and flannel knits were paired with printed jackets, leather toppers and slick pants. Plaid prints were a favourite items among the street style crowd, who did up ’90s style in true Canadian way. The colder weather also prompted a spike in fur coats and collars. Whether real or faux, fur was draped over shoulders, found inside jackets and worn as vests.
When it came to colour, the rainbow effect was the order of the day. Style Blog’s Nelia Belkova radiated warmth with her look: she donned a fuzzy, electric-lime jacket that made her black and yellow floral dress pop. Other notable bursts of colour included Hudson’s Bay Company stripes, a very psychedelic three-piece suit and candy apple red accessories. Whatever the shade worn, it all provided a necessary injection of brightness to counter the grey skies.

Street Style, Paris: Gorgeous girls outside fashion week
See the street style from Paris »
Wednesday was a busy day in Paris, with Hermès and Miu Miu’s stellar collections closing out a month of Spring 2014 fashion shows, and Marc Jacobs bowing out as creative director of Louis Vuitton. In a tour de fashion force, many stylish individuals came out for the closing shows.
Again, we saw the black and white trend in full swing and many of our stylish ladies were channeling it with their own interpretative spin. Overlays of blooming floral prints blended with exquisite tailoring and funky textures were just the fun decals needed to make heads turn. Miroslava Duma made her mark with a brilliant white, structured jacket with cinched waistline that oozed femininity. The classic mid-century design was ushered into the 21st century with a funky, bold rooster print.
In a combination of trends, others expressed their penchant for soft pink pastels in a sexy slinky, boudoir style dress. Coupled with a sharp, plaid overcoat and complete with metallics dancing at the bottom of the jacket, it was the perfect balance of femininity and fierceness made appropriate for the city and not just the bedroom.

How to wear the punk trend: 8 Style Panel tips for revamping the notoriously rebellious look this fall
While youthful rebellion may be something we all experienced in our earlier years, this season’s punk trend is feeling oh so modern. Riding the high of the Met’s Costume Institute summer exhibit, Punk: Chaos to Couture, the Fall 2013 runway shows continued our re-introduction to punk under the guise of rips and studs on luxurious […]

Monochromatic outfits were once again the trend on day two of Paris Fashion Week. There’s nothing like a bold statement colour to stand out from the rest of the stylish crowd (and get captured by our photographer Guilhem Malissen, of course).
Pulling off the tone-on-tone ensemble is no easy task, but showgoers prove to us exactly why they are fashion week’s street style stars. Stephanie LaCava mesmerized us in an off-the-shoulder emerald green dress, while another stopped us in our tracks in a head to toe bright red ensemble. But really bringing single hue outfits to a whole new level are street stylers who mixed different prints and textures (like a leopard print jacket and patent leather skirt or a striped cropped jacket and polka dot shirt) to make monochromatic ensembles that much more chic.
