From the food aisles to a galaxy far, far away, Fall 2014’s fashion narrative is just as varied as the many women who’ll likely fall for its manifold charms.

Call it the Lorde effect (or blame it fashion’s ever-growing obsession with Game of Thrones), but designers across all four major fashion cities seemed to fall under the dark spell of moody heroines. At Dolce & Gabbana, dresses were made to scrape that forest floor. At Valentino, capes shrouded the wicked and at Rodarte and Preen, Star Wars prints were made for the modern day Princess Leia.

And while normcore may have mounted last season’s defence to street style’s increasing zaniness, Fall fashion 2014 is rife with ways to make statements. Flashbulbs will no doubt capture this season’s array of larger than life outerwear, from the utilitarian parkas on Alexander Wang’s robotic runway to Burberry’s painterly blanket coats. Meanwhile, fur was back with a brightly hued vengeance, ombréd at both Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs, and in Crayola checks at Altuzarra. At Lanvin and Marni, fur was layered in wrap form over everything from short suits to sweatshirts.

This season’s accessories are especially light-hearted, with everything from a McDonalds Happy Meal to a carton of milk inspiring fall fashion 2014’s bags at Moschino and Chanel respectively. There were fur muffs at Tory Burch, crystal-incrusted snoods at Alexander McQueen and knee-highs á la Vivian Ward at Versace and sneakers once again staking their claim at Chanel.

If there ever were a time to pick your poison, it would be now.

Is there better news for a Monday morning than two new photos of Kate Middleton? How about: two new photos of Kate, one of which is an official family portrait, complete with smiling Prince George, happy Lupo and doting dad, Prince William. Best Monday ever!

The official Cambridge family portrait was taken by Jason Bell, who also took the (super adorable) Prince George christening photos. Kate, Will, Prince George and Lupo are sitting in a window at apartment A1 in Kensington Palace, otherwise known as their new royal home and the family looks perfectly at ease. “Why yes, our baby does have the cutest, pudgiest cheeks! Oh, the personalized “George” sweater he’s wearing? That was just a small gift from Grandpa Charles.”

Preen Spring 2014

Blue moon

Pale pink continues as a favourite for Spring 2014 with even the typically-strict strict Jean Pierre Bragaza dipping a toe into girl territory, though blue seemed most popular in varying shades—baby at Preen, denim at Holly Fulton, cobalt at David Koma and Topshop in all of the above.

Mulberry Spring 2014

Flora and fauna

Forget Miranda Priestley, designers are going full steam ahead with florals and nature-inspired prints for Spring 2014. At Mulberry, Emma Hill went out with bang-on floral-woven jacquard short suits and floral-appliqued signature tote bags for her last collection as the brand’s creative director. At Matthew Williamson, pink and yellow appliques found themselves on sixties-styled cocktail dresses while butterfly prints made their way down a swishy wideleg pant.

Sheer window

Nip slips seem the thing for Spring 2014. At J.W Anderson, pinched and pleated gauze-like nylon (or was it nylon?) gave way to his frothier side, ofttimes exposing skin whole.

Emilia Wickstead Spring 2014

Trapeze

This sixties favourite has been revved up for spring by London’s feminine set. Emilia Wickstead showed long billowing versions of the style in striking bright combos. Temperley’s two-piece version of the style layered magentas in varying brightness over one another.

Topshop Unique Spring 2014

Slip dresses

The nineties focus has ushered the slip dress back into our consciousness so forcefully that I can barely remember a time when it wasn’t. Topshop Unique’s considerably pared back spring featured two versions of the trend: cropped boho and ankle-grazing print-mixed silk. Under cool girl silk layers, Jonathan Saunders went tie-dye-like with green and blue on a striking peachy number.

We’re into the first few days of shows from London Fashion Week Spring 2014 and as per usual, this city’s penchant for girlish quirk has consumed us whole. Very much a natural progression from what was shown in both spring and fall of this year, London’s top talents seem to be giving us more of the same, but with a new spin. Who said there was ever enough of a good thing?

After months and months of speculation, St. James Palace has finally confirmed what we’d been hoping: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby! Rejoice! Clink those morning coffees! A Royal baby will be coming to a Palace not near you in T-minus 6 months!

It feels like forever since we last spotted Kate Middleton and Prince William out and about so we’re happy they made a comeback in style, and reused style at that. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge headed back to their alma mater (aka. where they first met!) St. Andrews in Scotland, to attend a fundraiser in honour of the university’s 600^th anniversary.

In the spirit of looking back, Kate Middleton took a trip back into her closet to pull out some of her best pieces. We previously saw the Duchess of Cambridge wearing her black lace Temperley dress back in January at the War Horse premiere but for the gala, she renewed the look by adding a patriotic crimson poppy in honour of Sunday’s Remembrance Day. She also accessorized with a bright red Alexander McQueen box clutch that she carried during the Diamond Jubilee River Thames Pageant and a pair of Jimmy Choo Cosmos peeked out from under the floor length gown.

By now, you must know that Pippa Middleton was in Paris this weekend. And her friend was pointing a gun at some paparazzi.

“Gungate,” as it is now known, blew up over the past few days with people wondering: Was the gun real? Will Pippa go to jail? Is Queen Kate mad? Will the royal sister be plucked from the front row at Temperley and thrust into Balenciaga’s Fall 2012 spy-themed collection ads? And what about Isabel Marant’s cowboy collection?

Before you get your knickers in a knot, apparently Jr. Middleton was not impressed with the violent act—at least, according to a rather gentlemanly public apology from Pippa’s carmate Viscount Arthur de Soultrait who said, “Obviously Philippa had no idea that he was going to do that and told him to stop immediately…She did not find it funny.”

Luckily for The Royal Family and Pippa, the scandal has slowly fizzled into nothing but a small pile of inert gunpowder. For starters, it’s since been discovered the gun was, in fact, a toy (though why any grown man would be carrying one of those around anyway is completely beyond us). It also appears no one has actually complained to the French police about the incident, so Pippa is not likely to face any criminal charges. Phew.

While she may not have committed a real crime this weekend, she most definitely committed a fashion one. The royal sister-in-law was in Paris for the 1700s-themed birthday party of the aforementioned Viscount and wore an unforgiveable fucshia, bow-covered, corset thing (there is no better word) atop cropped lace leggings that had some questioning her status as a fashion icon. This apparently paled in comparison to the other partygoers who, according to E! Online, wore “dog collars, chastity belts and surround[ed] themselves with dwarves.”

The only thing better than one Kate Middleton is four Kate Middletons! Madame Tussaud’s has created wax works to be unveiled in London, New York, Amsterdam and Blackpool. Each figure cost £150,000 and required four months of work from sculptors, colour artists and hair stylists.
