TIFF partysphere: Alexander Skarsgård reappears at the Vanity Fair party. James Franco, George Clooney, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Lewis were there too!
After the Melancholia party at Hugo Boss, we moseyed on over to Scarpetta at the Thompson Hotel for the Vanity Fair party, hoping to calm our Skarsgård-induced heart palpitations. Well, turns out that they actually increased; we spotted the vamp Viking right as we walked in! To boot, the Skars was embracing a one Juliette Lewis. Old friends? We hope something far more salacious. (We had a whole story going, but would rather not share.) The soiree, officially billed as the Vanity Fair/(Belvedere) RED/Fox Searchlight party, hosted the casts of The Descendants and Martha Marcy May Marlene a.k.a. George Clooney, Elizabeth Olsen, Hugh Dancy, and Sarah Paulson. James Franco was there too, sporting a patchy beard, lumpy sweater, and plenty of grimy sex appeal. (Yeah, we know you’re with us.) Also on hand? A buffet table of delicious finger foods that we’re pretty sure no one was touching except for us.

Overheard at TIFF: Leighton Meester is really into elaborate headbands. Go figure.
Overheard: While arriving the Variety studio at Holt Renfrew yesterday, Leighton Meester points to the elaborate headband of one of the store’s greeters and says, “That. Is. So. Cute.” If they know what’s good for them, the folks at Holts better get on making about a million more of those. Whatever Blair Waldorf says goes.

TIFF partysphere: We met Alexander Skarsgård at last night’s GQ and Hugo Boss Melancholia party. We did nothing but nod and smile
If you’ve been reading this site so far at all, you’ll know that we’re big fans of a one vamp Viking, Eric Northman aka. Alexander Skarsgård. Well guess what kids, we met him! In the flesh! The living flesh! Not the dead kind from TV! At last night’s Hugo Boss and GQ party for Melancholia, to be exact. Alongside Kirsten Dunst in her beauty of a ‘40s-inspired, polka-dot blouse and white skirt, the Skars infused the room with so much Swedish hotness, it was almost too much to take. After much giddy giggling, we (Holt Renfrew’s Jennifer Daubney and I) got the courage to let ourselves be introduced. Not like there was a point, since the two of us could barely say anything beyond “Big fans!” Then, naturally, we followed him out to the patio where we stole peeks of his behind. TMI?

TIFF partysphere: Chloe Moretz, Selma Blair, and Elisha Cuthbert at the Calvin Klein Independent Filmmaker Project party
The vibe at the Thompson Hotel party was decidedly laid back, once you made your way past the throngs of stargazers crowding outside. It was decidedly fragrant as well, being sponsored by Calvin Klein Euphoria, an addictive scent laced with pomegranate and black orchid. The hotel’s rooftop patio was littered with the perfume’s pink bottles, alongside more than a few orange ones from Veuve Cliquot contributing to the overall sense of… euphoria. Guests lounged on the patio’s cabana sofas, nibbling on sliders and taking in the Thompson’s view of the Toronto skyline. Hosted by Joana Vicente, executive director of the Independent Filmmaker Project, the fete’s raison d’etre was the celebration of the strong female contribution to this year’s festival. Guest of honour was the enchanting Selma Blair, here to promote her film Dark Horse but forever beloved for her performance in Cruel Intentions. Elisha Cuthbert was there with her hockey-captain sweetheart Dion Phaneuf (Go Leafs!) as was stylish songstress Fefe Dobson. Fourteen-year-old up-and-coming It girl Chloe Moretz attended and was up way past her bedtime, as were we. Time to unwind with the Coco avant Chanel DVD that was in one of our swag bags.

Overheard at TIFF: We didn’t think it was possible, but the fashion police are out on Rachel Weisz
Overheard today, as onlookers watched Rachel Weisz being interviewed at the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew: (Girl 1) “It looks like her shoes weigh more than she does.” (Girl 2) “And she certainly doesn’t laugh like an actress.” We didn’t think it was possible to ever be nasty to (or about) Weisz, but apparently it […]

TIFF partysphere: A virtual who’s who of home-grown Canadian superstars at last night’s HELLO! Magazine bash
Last night’s HELLO! Magazine party at the Ritz Carlton was a virtual who’s who of home-grown Canadian superstars. The stunning Gabrielle Miller of Corner Gas charmed reporters on the red carpet while members of the cast of Being Erica proved that those who work together, play together. Dolce Vita chef David Rocco was on hand […]

TIFF red carpet: Get Kirsten Dunst’s ’40s-inspired look from last night’s Melancholia premiere!
Kirsten Dunst stepped out for last night’s Melancholia premiere in a ’40s inspired pairing: a navy polka-dot button down blouse and a long pleated white skirt. Can we just say: we love! Kiki’s been looking real good lately, so much so that we’re shopping in the name of!

Overheard at TIFF: Stealing perfume bottles at the Calvin Klein party
At last night’s Calvin Klein Independent Filmmaker Project party on the Thompson rooftop: “I’ve stuffed eight bottles of Euphoria in my bag already!” Le sigh. We just hope she didn’t do it in front of Selma Blair.

TIFF partysphere: Jon Hamm and Gerard Butler amp up the stud-factor at George Stroumboulopoulos’ Hazelton Hotel bash
Getting in and around Friday night’s George Stroumboulopoulos Hazelton Hotel Takeover was not an easy feat, to say the least. That, however, didn’t make it any less fun. Rolling up to the hotel in my for-one-night-only Cadillac Escalade—complete with suited-up driver and white TIFF logos emblazoned on the side—throngs of onlookers peered through the windows to see who we were and gave us panic attacks in the meantime. We were not Keira, as it turned out. Later, inside, friend, office mate and Toronto Life associate online editor Kevin Naulls has the misfortune of falling with a wine glass. We won’t share the bloody details. The patio was much easier to navigate, and we spotted the Strombo himself greeting Gerard Butler, Paul Giamatti, and a one Jon Hamm looking hotter than ever, if that’s even possible.

TIFF partysphere: Ryan Gosling, Keira Knightley, Alexander Skarsgård, Emily Blunt, Jon Hamm, and every star ever hit the Soho House again last night
Once again, the Grey Goose Soho House was home to just about every star you’d ever want to be home with last night, as the casts from Drive and A Dangerous Method celebrated their screenings. Who, pray tell, is all the hype about? Just Ryan Gosling, Keira Knightley, Alexander Skarsgård, Emily Blunt, Bono, George Clooney, Jon Hamm, Evan Rachel Wood, Anna Faris, Dave Matthews, Sarah Sadon, David Cronenberg, Jimmy Kimmel, Kate Mara, Emile Hirsch, Albert Brooks, and Brian Cranston is all. Wish you were there? We’ll give you the next best thing…

TIFF red carpet: What do you think of Brangelina’s black-on-black matching outfits?
Okay, so maybe they’re not twins, but we can’t help but think that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt planned their back-to-black outfits together. Angie, in an asymmetrical satin Vivienne Westwood gown, a Louis Vuitton clutch, and jewellery of her own design (what!?!), and Brad in well… scruff, at last night’s Moneyball premiere look like two peas in one expensive, slightly Addams Family–esque pod. And we s’pose they should.

TIFF partysphere: Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Evan Rachel Wood, and Mark Wahlberg were all hanging out together at the Soho House last night
Amongst the many (many) velvet ropes of TIFF, the ones that you’ll most want to get past are the ones guarding the Grey Goose Soho House. Held at an undisclosed location (we would tell you, but that would probably mean that they wouldn’t let us back), the ultra-private bar, with its specialty cocktails (more on that later), its mishmash of expensive-looking antique furniture, and its teeny-tiny DJ booth, is going to be home to some of the most exclusive parties of the week. Last night, the megawatt cast from Ides of March—ahem, Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Evan Rachel Wood, Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman—and We Need to Talk About Kevin—ahem, Tilda Swinton—held court. Plus, Mark Wahlberg made drinks! Later, it was reported that Alexander Skarsgård was there, though until we see him with our own eyes, attempt to kidnap him, and then get arrested, we won’t be satisfied.
