Oscars 2014 party looks: The 10 best dressed guests that never made it on TV
See the best Oscars 2014 party looks »
Sometimes, no matter how big a star you are, you can’t nab an invitation to the Oscars ceremony. But perhaps there’s more fun in dressing up for fun and hitting the party circuit than stuck in a theatre seat all night. Just take a look at the Oscar parties frequented by many a celeb and star—the glamorous styles didn’t stop at the red carpet. Just because you aren’t nominated for an Oscar doesn’t mean you can’t join in on the fun, right?
Taylor Swift went for some drama in a black sequined column dress with a sexy sheer back by Julien MacDonald, keeping things in line with her usual look of relaxed waves and a red pout. In the same vein as TSwift, Allison Williams upped the ante in a backless Emilia Wickstead gown in bright bubble gum pink, expertly tailored with a full skirt and a high pseudo-turtleneck. Both pretty young things kept their jewellery to a minimum going for statement earrings and blinding rings—a new engagement ring in Williams’ case.

Lupita Nyong’o swaps looks on the red carpet for Vanity Fair’s Oscars 2014 after party
See both Lupita Nyong’o Oscars looks up-close »
While the Oscars may actually be about the awards, we all know that red carpet glamour is the main reason us fashion gals tune in. While movie critics and fans alike are all talking about Gravity’s production awards sweep and Leo’s latest loss for Best Actor, we still can’t get over how amazing Lupita Nyong’o looked last night. Given her run this past red carpet season, we went into the night knowing she was going to look unreal, but she blew us out of the park on Hollywood’s biggest night
Undeniably the belle of the ball, Nyong’o first wowed on the red carpet in a plunging powder blue Prada gown fit for a Grecian princess. The revealing gown was perfect for the Best Supporting Actress’ slight figure—anyone with too much décolletage would have been falling out of the dress. The deep-V front was mirrored in the back and in the open sides, and the full skirt was enriched with a dusting of crystal beading on the edges of the pleats to add some shimmer. The accessories were kept minimal, as to not over-power the gown, with Fred Leighton ear cuffs, gold wrap bracelet and a crystal and gold Prada Raso clutch.

Jennifer Lawrence sizzles in Calvin Klein at the Oscars 2013 Vanity Fair after party
See both of Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscars 2013 dresses up-close »
Just when we thought Jennifer Lawrence couldn’t top the frothy pink Christian Dior Haute Couture princess gown she wore on the red carpet at last night’s Oscars, we saw the photos of her after-party look from last night’s Vanity Fair soiree. Yowza.
Lawrence wore a custom beaded gunmetal grey Calvin Klein Collection dress that just oozed the star’s signature va-va-voom appeal. Featuring a low cut bodice, thin spaghetti straps and a body-hugging slim shape, the dress was certainly a departure from the actress’s awards ceremony look, which some might say was a bit too fairytale for the typically more edgy star. But, hey. What could be more fairytale than winning your first Academy Award at only 22 years old? Nothing, probably. Lawrence paired the shimmering gown with simple earrings, bangles and a ring from Shay Jewels.
We loved her Dior Haute Couture gown, but the Calvin Klein Collection dress seems to suit her more. What do you think? Cast your vote in our red carpet poll!

Kate’s on Vanity Fair’s International Best-Dressed List (of course!) as well as the cover of their September issue
This time there’s no photoshoppery required: Kate Middleton is one of Vanity Fair‘s September covers, but the magazine chose to use an actual photo of the duchess instead of pulling a Marie Claire South Africa. (The picture in question is from last year’s visit to Los Angeles, when Will and Kate attended the BAFTA Awards.)

On the cover: Newcomer Allison Williams talks about Girls, her famous family and saying no to nudity
See our cover shoot »
Read our Girls recaps »It’s 26 minutes and 11 seconds into the third episode of HBO’s Girls. A struggling writer named Hannah Horvath, played by the show’s 26-year-old creator/star, Lena Dunham, is in her bedroom staring at a laptop. She’s just endured the most hellish month of her adult life: Her parents have stopped paying her rent, her doctor has diagnosed her with HPV and her former college boyfriend has let her know that her “handsomeness” helped him realize his attraction to men.
Instead of having a breakdown, Hannah decides to throw down. She double clicks an MP3 of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own,” jumps off her bed and swings her tattooed arms to the gunning beat. Her impeccably put-together roommate, Marnie, played by 24-year-old Allison Williams, catches Hannah’s impromptu dance party and joins in. Together in their tiny Brooklyn apartment they hair-flip the pain away, share a hug and make the tragic magic. The credits roll.

Since the lords, ladies, and servants of a certain English period series came into our lives, we’ve scarcely been able to talk about anything else! (Raf who?) Not even the Oscars filled our Sunday night void. Downton Abbey has been thrilling us since the first season aired last year, but it seems that the buzz regarding this latest instalment has come to a fever pitch. While our recaps are obviously the best way to relive season 2, we’ve pulled together another 8 awesome ways to savour Downton till the last drop, that is, until it returns (with Shirley MacLaine as Cora’s mother!) next year on PBS.
