While the Oscars may actually be about the awards, we all know that red carpet glamour is the main reason us fashion gals tune in. While movie critics and fans alike are all talking about Gravity’s production awards sweep and Leo’s latest loss for Best Actor, we still can’t get over how amazing Lupita Nyong’o looked last night. Given her run this past red carpet season, we went into the night knowing she was going to look unreal, but she blew us out of the park on Hollywood’s biggest night

Undeniably the belle of the ball, Nyong’o first wowed on the red carpet in a plunging powder blue Prada gown fit for a Grecian princess. The revealing gown was perfect for the Best Supporting Actress’ slight figure—anyone with too much décolletage would have been falling out of the dress. The deep-V front was mirrored in the back and in the open sides, and the full skirt was enriched with a dusting of crystal beading on the edges of the pleats to add some shimmer. The accessories were kept minimal, as to not over-power the gown, with Fred Leighton ear cuffs, gold wrap bracelet and a crystal and gold Prada Raso clutch.

Awards season is underway and it seems that every other night there is a star-studded gala, benefit or awards show to ogle. We’re not complaining. Last night, it was the Critics’ Choice Awards in Santa Monica, and our favourite celebs didn’t disappoint on the red carpet. A mix of new faces and fashion vets make up our best dressed list keeping things fresh with pops of colour and new silhouettes.

Breakout Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie was a certified babe in a black lace-trimmed jumpsuit from red carpet favourite Elie Saab’s Spring 2014 collection. Pants are still considered unconventional on the red carpet, but this Aussie killed. On the flip side, 12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o went with a stunning white cut-out Calvin Klein Collection dress and clutch, later accessorized with the award for Best Supporting Actress. Some of our favourite faces shone on the red carpet in a pleasant colour array. Meryl Streep went for a bedazzled navy blue Stella McCartney dress, while Best Actress in a Drama winner Sandra Bullock opted for a rich burgundy custom Lanvin dress, which she finished off with a classic Roger Vivier buckle clutch and Fred Leighton jewels. Both Oprah Winfrey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus showed how to work green in their own unique way—the Queen of talk shows in a cinched dark green Azzedine Alaïa gown and Dreyfus in a Reem Acra knee-length cocktail dress.

Join us as we still float in the sartorial high of last night’s Emmys and take a closer look at some of our standouts. Though blush coloured gowns were the most popular of the evening, Sofia Vergara and Michelle Dockery deviated towards berry tones.

Sofia Vergara looked ravishing in a vibrant red Vera Wang gown accessorized with tri-jewel toned Lorraine Schwartz earrings. The mermaid silhouette dress did wonders for the Modern Family star’s curves and the v-cut neckline showed just enough décolletage to cause a few double takes.

Opting for a more sedate approach to her Emmys’ look, Michelle Dockery wore a top to toe Prada ensemble. She wore a two-toned halter dress that had a fitted red top and a pleated deep burgundy skirt. The Downton Abbey star completed her Prada look with Fred Leighton jewellery and an embellished clutch.

For their beauty looks both actresses opted for neutral hued lips, bold lashes and parted hair. Sofia went with a middle part and hanging curls while Michelle’s bob was in the night’s popular side part.

While the days of Carrie Bradshaw may be in the past, but Sarah Jessica Parker is still turning heads with every red carpet appearance she makes.

The Sex and the City star may have outshone the A-listers at the premiere of Sam Mendes’ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical in London on Tuesday. Joined by a dapper husband Matthew Broderick and their ten-year-old son James, the stylish Parker-Broderick family was all smiles on the red carpet. Possibly inspired by the famous golden tickets, Parker was decked out in a glittery Marc Jacobs number from the designer’s Resort 2014 collection. The black and gold striped sequined dress showed off her famously petite frame, and was paired with a simple black and gold plated bracelet. SJP finished off her look with a pair of classic black heels by Manolo Blahnik and a colour-block Fendi Baguette bag.
