What Is Worse for the Planet? Real or Faux Fur?
One of the most enduring fashion visuals from the 1990s Club Kids scene is Deee-Lite’s video for “Groove Is in the Heart.” In it, the beyond fabulous Lady Miss Kier is wearing a bouffant hairdo, short shorts and a fluffy white coat next to which appear the words “Fake Fur.” It made the statement that […]

Academy of Country Music Awards 2014: Our top 4 best dressed looks from the red carpet
See all the best dressed looks from the ACM Awards »
Oh, country music. No other genre has as many award shows (seriously) but then again, nobody puts on quite a show like the country stars do. And when it comes to the red carpet, it’s an all-out extravaganza. Dressing for a country music awards show is basically like the Grammys meets prom: the bigger the hair, the glitzier the dress, the better. For last night’s Academy Of Country Music Awards there was a lot of glitter, but also a number of totally refined and frankly, unexpected looks.
Taylor Swift seemed to be taking a style note from new BFF Karlie Kloss. Her black and white ensemble by J. Mendel featured a crop top with cut-out detailing and a long skirt complete with thigh-high slit. Swift also departed from her usual shimmery cat-eye makeup with a fierce vibrant blue smoky eye, paired with a coral lipstick applied so perfectly that we did a double take when she came on stage.

Is the blue dress this year’s definitive red carpet trend?
See all the on trend dresses here »
While the LBD is a term we all know and love, the acronym has a new meaning in the most recent hottest red carpet trend: the Long Blue Dress. We first saw the look back in January with Amy Adams’ amazingly vivid Antonio Berardi dress at the SAG Awards. Since then, Adams and others, have opted for bold blue hues over the ole faithful black. Is this a preview of what’s to come this weekend at the Academy Awards?
Wearing a head-to-toe colour can sometimes give off a certain vibe—a slinky red dress will always have sexy undertones for example—but blue is much more versatile. Take Beyoncé’s sequined blue dress by Vrettos Vrettakos at the Brit Awards and Amy Adams’ teal Frocktalk by Kristin Burke look for example. Two very different looks—one modern, the other old Hollywood glamour—were achieved despite being similar shades and both long sleeved floor length silhouettes.
Similarly, Olivia Munn’s plunging J. Mendel open-back gown featured a definite retro hourglass shape but was updated thanks to the unexpected bright blue colour. A red or white version of the dress would have felt a little stale or predictable—going for an unusual shade of blue makes gives the dress that little something extra. The same goes for Ellie Goulding’s recent Roberto Cavalli number where a rich hue of royal blue gives the fairly casual silhouette some oomph.

Emmys 2013: Our top 20 best dressed on the red carpet
See the Emmys 2013 red carpet gallery »
The Primetime Emmy Awards were held last night in L.A. drawing the stars of our favourite highly addictive shows. From Kerry to Carrie and beyond, the red carpet was lined with gown after gown of the most feminine pinks, vibrant blues and fresh off the runway pieces.
Making a simple but bold statement with fall’s pink trend, Rose Byrne showed clean lines in a petal pink Calvin Klein cropped two-piece as did January Jones in a textured Spring 2014 Givenchy strapless gown by Riccardo Tisci. Sisters Zooey and Emily Deschanel wore similarly hued gowns by J.Mendel and Houghton as they presented an award onstage. Blue was also popular for Tina Fey and Allison Williams, who worked cobalt blue in Narsico Rodriguez and Ralph Lauren respectively.
Our Emmys 2013 standouts include the ever-smoldering Sofia Vergara whose mind-blowing curves left us with body envy. The Modern Family star sizzled in a crimson Vera Wang gown and emerald Lorraine Schwartz earrings. Claire Danes, who walked away with a coveted Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama, was delicate in an off white Armani Privé Fall 2013 gown.
Accompanying the glamour came an evening chock full of surprises, laughs and unforgettable acceptance speeches. Memorable moments include the host Neil Patrick Harris’s mid-show musical number, Michael Douglas’s Liberace-esque speech and the funny and casually dressed Will Ferrell. With the best leading ladies in primetime television satisfying our sartorial needs on the red carpet and dapper gents as far as the eye could see at the Emmys 2013, glamour was definitely in the air!
Who was your favourite of the evening?

Venice Film Festival 2013: Our top 10 best dressed from the first week of red carpets, parties and photo calls
See the Venice Film Festival 2013 images »
It’s only a week into the 70th annual Venice Film Festival and the stars are bringing their sartorial A-game. To help us keep track of the endless red carpet premieres, photo-calls and press conferences, we’re rounding it up with 10 of our favourite fashion looks so far. With TIFF coming up this week, we’re getting a good idea of what the celebrities are bringing to the red carpet and let’s just say, we’re not worried at all.
We’re used to seeing Sandra Bullock playing it safe with monochromatic tones on the red carpet, and so it was a breath of fresh air to see the Oscar-winning actress in two colourful ensembles last week. Arriving in style, Bullock wore a colourblock dress by Alex Perry and Giuseppe Zanotti heels at the photo call for her film Gravity. Later in the evening, she left us speechless at the opening ceremony in a red strapless silk gown by J. Mendel from the Resort 2014 collection as she completed the outfit with Martin Katz jewellery and Roger Vivier black clutch and ankle-strap sandals.

Kristen Stewart Style: A Chronological Guide to the Star’s Best Fashion Moments
It doesn’t take being a Twihard to be a fan of Kristen Stewart’s style. Met Gala 2013: The 25 best dressed on fashion’s most important red carpet
See the Met Gala 2013 red carpet photos »
The build up to this year’s Met Gala has been major. Designers, celebrities and the fashion elite have been scrambling to piece together a look that fits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s theme, PUNK: Chaos to Couture and while admittedly, the punk-inspired looks were few and far between, we were certainly thrilled with a few.
Channeling her own recent V Magazine cover, Miley Cyrus went latter day Debbie Harry with platinum blonde spikes and a long fishnet Marc Jacobs dress. Anne Hathaway debuted a similarly bleached bob alongside her date and dresser for the night, Valentino Garavani, sending the twittersphere in a tizzy.
Co-chairs of the event Riccardo Tisci and Rooney Mara went punk-light with Mara in a beautifully detailed white lace Givenchy dress and a pop of crimson on the lips.
Also wearing Givenchy was none other than Beyoncé—the honourary chairperson for this year’s event. Pairing her custom-designed strapless black and gold printed gown with blinged out boots in the same shade, Queen Bey proved for her second year in a row that last on the red carpet is always best.
After finally receiving the Anna Wintour nod of approval, Kim Kardashian made an appearance at the Met Gala 2013 in a floral-print Givenchy dress with baby-daddy, Kanye West at her side.
Someone who is more known for consistently nailing red carpet looks than Kimye, is Emma Watson and she hit a high note yet again in a skin-bearing Prabal Gurung dress with a single silver drop earring hanging from her left ear.
And while Kristen Stewart has held fast to her role as the face of Balenciaga’s Florabotanica, she strayed from the house’s new wears, opting instead, for a crimson Stella McCartney pantsuit.
So who was the best dressed at the Met Gala 2013? Vote in our poll!

Grammys 2013: 10 of the best dressed singers and starlets on the red carpet
See the 10 best dressed looks from the 2013 Grammys »
Despite a memo from CBS warning stars to cover up, there was still much skin to be seen on the 2013 Grammy Awards red carpet. Most notable was Katy Perry, who stunned in a mint-green Gucci Resort 2013 dress that was skin-tight and featured an embellished keyhole detail which showed off her ample cleavage. Perry’s look was part Priscilla Presley, part Lana Del Rey and she certainly pulled off the ’70s-inspired style well.
Solange Knowles also wore green, though her beaded Ralph & Russo Couture gown was more of a vibrant emerald hue. Solange is known for her quirky and colourful outfits and her neon-pink Louboutins added personality to her look. Solange’s dress featured a thigh-high slit—a style that was seen on a number of starts last night at the 2013 Grammys. (Clearly Angie’s right leg is still dictating red carpet trends!) Jennifer Lopez took the slit to the next level with an Anthony Vaccarello Spring 2013 gown that seemed to almost tuck in like a pair of hot pants at the top of her thigh. The asymmetrical draped black silk gown certainly showed off her toned body and was set off with shiny gold accessories—and a matching pointy gold manicure.
Black and white was definitely a trend at the 2013 Grammys, as it was for the Golden Globes and SAG Awards red carpet. Beyoncé wore both black and white in an architectural jumpsuit by Osman. The somewhat casual-yet-still-smoking look was certainly one of a kind on the red carpet and Beyoncé accessorized with black and white cuffs and a red pout. Our former cover girl Carly Rae Jepsen wowed in a dark, metallic Roberto Cavalli gown. The mermaid silhouette looked amazing with her dark hair, porcelain skin and enviable body. Carrie Underwood also wore a black strapless mermaid silhouette gown by Roberto Cavalli—though where Jepsen’s was beaded, Underwood’s dress featured lace and embroidery.
