What’s in your bag, Tamara Mellon?
What’s in your bag, Tamara Mellon? »
In just over 10 years, Tamara Mellon has established herself as a titan of the fashion world. The former accessories editor turned CEO of Jimmy Choo built the label from the ground up, making it one of the most recognized names in luxury footwear and accessories (and worth upwards of $100 million to boot). After leaving the company in 2012 and penning an ultra-revealing autobiography In My Shoes, Mellon went back to the drawing board, launching a namesake label of her own last fall. Consisting of slick and sexy ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories for the ball-buster inside all of us, the label was an instant sell-out when it launched on Net-A-Porter. This season, the label launches at Holt Renfrew, which the 46-year-old OBE toasted last week in Toronto. While in town, we took a peek inside one of her new bags for a reveal of what a champion accessories designer carries along for a 24-hour jaunt.

They said/We said: Tamara Mellon leaves Jimmy Choo in a hurry, but why?
News broke over the weekend that Tamara Mellon, co-founder and creative director of the world-renowned Jimmy Choo, would be leaving the company—and information about the split is still being released to the curious public.
Mellon, who was going to finish out the month as a creative consultant for the design team, is now being reported to have made her resignation immediate, and we can’t help but suspect some kind of bad blood. Jimmy Choo was bought by luxury firm Labelux last May, and Mellon gained over £85 million from the sale, a good reason not to stay with a job that is no longer completely enjoyable.

Fashion news: World-weary teens, Tamara Mellon may sell Jimmy Choo, and Ralph Lauren’s new catalogue, er, kids’ book
We’d like to direct your attention to the self-professed “gothic counterpoint to Tavi,” French wunderkind Charles Guislain. Though he doesn’t have a blog, his sense of style has turned enough heads to land him in Italian Vogue and turn him into a YouTube sensation. At 17, he says he is already tired of Europe: “I need to escape European life. I am a little bored with this now.” Le sigh! [The Cut]
Based on Kate Moss‘s street style and runway shows by the likes of Givenchy, Céline and Jean Paul Gaultier, this fashion forecaster believes we’ll all be wearing sheer black pantyhose come fall. [Telegraph]

The line of signature eight-hole boots will be decked out with the best of Sanrio–a perfect consolation for kawaii (i.e. cuteness) fans who cried over the Takashi Murakami + Louis Vuitton price tags. Tamara Mellon is switching roles at Jimmy Choo from founder and president to founder and chief creative officer. Vogue UK writes that “[I]n this new position Mellon will continue to oversee the label’s brand image, including product design, public relations and advertising campaigns. Sandra Choi will continue in her role as creative director with responsibility for product design.” If Mellon and Choi are both continuing to do what they already did, what exactly is this “new role” for Mellon? Fashion news: Canadian beauty honours, Tamara Mellon sues her mom, and RoPatz underpantz
The first-ever Canadian P&G Beauty Awards were handed out last night at Toronto’s Carlu. Nia Vardalos presided over the evening, which had a list of presenters that included Jeanne Beker, designer Joeffer Caoc, CNTM’s Meaghan Waller and Style by Jury’s David Clemmer. FASHION picked up two awards—Best Fashion Feature for Karen Burshtein’s “Diary of a Couture Dress” from our Summer 2008 issue and Best Magazine Cover for our August 2008 cover with Coco Rocha. Other winners included Addison Gill for Best New Face and Janine Falcon (imabeautygeek.com) for Best Beauty or Fashion Blog.
Tamara Mellon is suing her mother for $9.5 million. The lawsuit comes on the heels of the allegation that Mellon’s mum, Ann Yeardye, breached their part verbal/part paper contract in the sale of Jimmy Choo to Lion Capital in 2004. Yeardye was meant to receive only a cash pay off in the deal but she allegedly took $6.3 million in stock. [The Cut]

Fashion news: Pregnant Jourdan Dunn walks runway, Heidi Klum changes name, Brooks Brothers sells Mad Men suits and more
Morning sickness didn’t stop a very pregnant Jourdan Dunn from walking the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier. The glowing model wore a padded cone bra with matching maternity plate, looking like a Roman soldier in her first catwalk appearance at the spring shows. [Fashionologie]
Heidi Klum is changing her last name to match her husband’s. Seal may be known to us solely by his first name, but the singer’s entire name is Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adelo Samuel. Heidi is opting for Samuel as her new surname. We don’t love it as much as Klum, but as long as she doesn’t change her killer legs, we’ll just have to deal. [TMZ, via Jezebel]
